Woody Woodpecker & Friends Holiday Favorites DVD

TITLE-Woody Woodpecker & Friends Holiday Favorites

SOURCE-Universal DVD

Ahh Walter Lantz and his cartoons. Growing up all the old theatrical short cartoons aired either before school or after school Monday through Friday. All of us loved Looney Tunes. Most enjoyed Pink Panther,Popeye and Tom and Jerry. The Walter Lantz stuff, which was Broadcast as Woody Woodpecker show was the odd man out. It aired right when most of us were catching the cheese wagon,Old bus #7,to head to Orange Lake Elementary.

By the time I was in first grade we had a VCR, a BETAmax model. So I would have mom or dad set it to record Woody Woodpecker for me and Rocky and Bullwinkle. Bullwinkle aired at 3pm. I got out of school at 3pm and was 320pm before I got home.

Which meant most of my friends didn't see Woody, lots didnt see Bullwinkle. Then one morning while having breakfast I heard another kid at the table doing Woody's laugh. When we had recess that day went and found him. Learned he lived close to the school so each day he got to see at least the first short aired on the Woody show before the bus got there. We bonded over this and even now decades later we are still in touch.

Now the above pictured DVD,was found last month at what I refer to as "the good Junkstore". The place that is only open 2 days a week ,maybe. And DVDs/Blu Rays/4ks are 50 cents  each. I just saw Woody and it was Holiday cartoons and  added it to my pile early that morning.

Now it does contain 2 full episodes of The Woody Woodpecker show. But it is the 90s version. The one I never saw. In this one the cartoons were brand new. No more reairing the old shorts.

These two full episodes aren't bad. I love the Chilly Willy short where he is trying to hitch a ride on Santa's sleigh to go somewhere's warm. But Smedley the dog is Santa's helper and preventing this.

As a bonus Universal included 5 old Lantz Theatrical shorts.

Ski for two

I'm  cold-more on this later

Toyland Premiere

Jolly Little Elves

Candyland

Those last three are typical theatrical shorts from that era. Set to a song and feels like someone telling you  bedtime story.

Now I'm Cold is a classic Chilly Willy short. One I know I've seen many times.

We start with Chilly in his igloo freezing his butt off. He burns his last piece of wood. Is ripping pages out of what I am assuming is a Sears Roebuck catalog and sees a fur coat.

And the warehouse for the furs ain't far away. So off Chilly goes to steal him a fur. Guarding the warehouse is Smedley the dog.

After many attempts to steal furs, and Smedley locking them up in a vault,Chilly gets the bright idea to just shave Smedley's tail.

Yea I've seen this short many times since I was a kid and when I was watching this recently I was sitting there with a huge smile on my face. Not only was this a funny cartoon but that rush of nostalgia hit hard.

No clue how much of that 90s Woody show is on DVD. I wouldn't mind seeing more of the show.

So if you see this dvd for cheap and want to introduce someone to some classic holiday themed cartoons this is worth grabbing.

Scooby Doo & Batman The Brave and the Bold DVD

TITLE-Scooby Doo & Batman The Brave and the Bold
SOURCE-WB DVD

Back when Brave and the Bold was airing I worked the night it aired. Would record it and when I got home  at 8am the next morning sit and watch it before going to bed. Fun show that combined the silliness of the Batman66 tv show with a great selection guest stars. Can't hate a show that produced at least 4 Plastic Man Figures.

In 2018 I saw this got released. Normally with these Scooby Doo movies I wait a year and find a used copy for a few bucks. This one I paid the full retail price.

Mystery Inc is trying to solve a mystery about a ghostly puppetmaster. When they do and learn the puppet master is Martian Manhunter and the puppet is Detective Chimp we learn this was a test. To see if Mystery Inc is good enough to join this mystery solving team Batman has formed. And what a team, the Question,Plastic Man,Black Canery,Aquaman and the previously mentioned Detective Chimp and Johnn Jozz.

Batman has 1 unsolved mystery from early in his career. And this film is about how him and the Scooby Gang solve this mystery.

Loaded with cameos and references that the comic fans and older Scooby fan will love. My favorite is the gang being told to goto the "Corner of Spears and Ruby."

Now I haven't watched this since I got it 6 years ago. And until 10 minutes from the ending I had forgotten who the big bad was. The Crimson Cowl, who I nicknamed Red Booger,is a interesting attempt at creating a new Batman Rogue. At least I think he is new.

Good animation, good voice acting and with this being a tiny bit over 70s minutes a good length. Extras are the 2 episodes of the New Scooby Doo Movies show with Batman and Robin.

31 Days of Horror Day 27 Pac's Scary Halloween Special

TITLE-Pac's Scary Halloween
SOURCE=Netflix

I am old enough to remember the early 80s Pac-Man cartoon The one that most people now only know cause Boomerang/Cartoon Network show the Xmas special most year.

And that cartoon was fun. A few years back I see there is a new Pac-Man animated tv show. A co production between the US and Japan. It is computer animated and very different from the old Hanna Barbara one.

I had seen a few episodes and enjoyed them. So when I was looking for some animated Halloween specials I hadn't seen on Netflix and saw that this new Pac-Man series had a Halloween Special I downloaded it to my tablet. And finally got around to watching it today while taking a friend's mother grocery shopping

Pac-Man and his two friends end up at a haunted castle. Where a brain in a jar wants to plant his brain into Pac-Man's body. This brain is known as Pacenstein!!!!

Gotta talk about Pac and his 2 friends costumes.

Pac has snakes on his head so I am assuming he is a Medusa. Oddly sometimes these snakes appear to be living and react to stuff and other times they appear to just be fake snakes.

THe lady pac man,I think her name is Cyberllina,is dressed up as the lead villain.
Then the big stupid pac guy,Spiral I think is his name, I think is dressed up as a radish.....

Pacenstein puts his mind into Pac Mans body. Which turns his main part of the body a lighter shade of yellow. But Pac Man's mind has turned the brain in the jar to a bright yellow color.

Another new thing is there is more than just the ghosts from the original Pac-Man arcade game. The original ghosts are working undercover for Pac-man. And the girl ghost is in love with Pac-Man.

THese good guy ghosts and Pac's two friends find the brain that has Pac-man in it now. ANd they set out to find Pacenstein,in pac-man's body.

The lead villain has a sidekick who's forehead looks like a butt..Not sure if that is on purpose...Wait he just got called DR Rumphead. It is on purpose.

The ghosts find Pacenstein. Pacenstein eats them which leaves just their eyes. Just like in the games.

Pacenstein tries to eat a elderly pac-person. Then throws her up. Which brings out a bunch of Pac-villagers with torches.

SO Pacenstein eats a power pellet gets ice  powers and the villagers run off.

THe villagers run into the Pac Friends with the brain. Pac-man Brain tries to explain and hte vilagers dont believe him.  So the pac friends are getting chased by the angry vilagers and now some spooky wolves. Spiral and the girl eat power pellts. Spiral becomes a fly like thing. THe girl becomes a spider???

But the webs and flight ability of the two defeat the wolves. But the villagers catch up with them. Right then the power pellets wear off.

OK seems that butthead ghost is named DR Buttocks. I would have loved that name when I was 8.

Ghosts attack the pac friends. But the pac friends just play football with pac-man brain in jar and get away.

And while they are surrounded by ghosts, monsters and villagers COUNT PACULA saves them !!!!!!!

Since Pac man and the pac friends are fighting Pacenstein,Pacula is gonna help them. Cause Pacenstein makes too much noise and keeps Pacula awake LOL.

Pacenstein shows up at the party Pac man was expected at and he eats everything. Pacenstein eats a power berrie, what they call power pellets in this. It gives him electrical powers. Then he shape shifts into a  Pac like KING KONG!!!!

Pacula, and the Pacfriends show up to fight off Pac-Kong. Pacenstein shifts back into Pacman shape to brag. ANd that was just dumb why not stay in the Pac-Kong body?

The villains start doing a version of the THriller dance? Pacenstein eats a bunch more ghosts. Gives some bad oneliners. And after the villains attack Pacman brain ends up in a punch bowl!!

THe big nosed green pac dude saves everyone while driving his Pac-banana vehicle. He has a brain switching ray. FUcks up and Pacman goes from the brain in the jar into Pacula's body. How is this gonna end they got like 2 minutes left.

Pacman/Dracula eats a power berrie that makes you smart. Deus Ex Machina.........Yep he comes up with a idea to the brains back in the right places. His hEAD grows so big he falls over on pacenstein!

Big nose green pac guy uses a machine to get all the brains back into the right bodies. And it ends with a dance remix of the game music from the original pacman arcade game.

Pac's Scary Halloween gets a C+.

31 Days of Horror 2016 Day 19 Nickelodeon Frightfest

Title-Nickelodeon Frightfest
Source-VHS rip

Recently got a pack of various animated horror/Halloween related specials. Never heard of this VHS before. But after googling the cover and seeing it had 3 cartoons I enjoyed on it I threw it in to watch.

Up first was Rugrats. Never seen this episode before,in it Angela is telling the babies about Halloween and how they can get Reptar candy bars. The Pickles have set up a tent in their backyard. And trick or treaters go into it to get candy. So the babies see this and of course misunderstand it. Overall it was a pretty entertaining episode.

The second cartoon was Doug.Which is one of the Nicktoons I watched every episode of. In this one Skeeter and Doug go trick or treating. Then end up at a haunted house attraction. Overall the episode was neat but nothing special.

To wrap it up we get the episode of Ren and STimpy with the haunted house. Pretty sure this is one of the last episodes before John K got kicked off the show. And for me it is one of the worst of the run with him at the helm.

Now if this tape was just those three episodes I wouldn't bother tracking it down. But inbetween each episode we get to see lots of horror/Halloween based Nick Bumpers. Most of which I haven't seen since the early 90s.

2016 Comic Challenge 233 Regular Show Volume #01

TITLE-Regular Show Volume 01
PUBLISHER-Kaboom an imprint of Boom Studios

This trade reprints issues 1,2,4 and 5 from the Regular Show comic. No idea why they skipped issue 3.

The art and stories do a good job of capturing the feel of the cartoon.Like the first story about how Muscle Man starts a mosh pit at a concert in the park. And this almost unleashes a terrible demon. Or the one where Mordici needs a haircut and him and Rigby go to a new barber shop.

I doubt I would read this monthly but I would grab a copy of the trade from my local library.

2016 Comic Challenge 038 Yogi Bear #01

TITLE-Yogi Bear #01
PUBLISHER-Archie Comics

Yeah I am reading an Yogi Bear comic. A few years ago I was given what had been a cousin's old comics. Mixed in there was lots of comics based on various cartoons.

Our first story is Big City Bears. And in the first panel the head Ranger is throwing Yogi and Boo Boo out of Jellystone. Cause they won't stop stealing picnic baskets.

So our two bear pals hop a train into the big city. And they get a job singing and playing piano at a restaurant. They are loving the job. Then one night are watching TV and see a special on Jellystone Park. And they learn that the Ranger misses them. And the park isn't the same with them gone.

Yogi calls and sets up a meeting with the Ranger. And works out a deal for them to come back. It is right in time, cause they get fired from their jobs for eating to much.

The second story has Yogi winning the state lottery. Now I do wonder how Yogi can get the money, since he has no ID,Social Security number, etc.Yogi of course uses the money to order picnic baskets. But realizes quickly it isn't as fun if he doesn't have to steal them.

The other 3 stories are average at best.

One thing I want out of a comic based on a cartoon is art that looks like the cartoon. And this comic does that really well. The stories all feel like something Hanna Barbara would have done in the cartoon.

If I hadn't gotten this for free I doubt I would have bought it.

31 Days of Horror Halloween Day extra 01 Halloween Cartoons and TV specials

As a kid I looked forward to Halloween each year. Not just for the dressing up and trick or treating. And not just because it meant the 5 channels we got would start showing lots of horror movies. And not because it being October my uncle would be taking me to a horror film every week. What I looked forward to the most was all the animated Halloween cartoons the big 3 networks would show.

I have noticed over the past decade that fewer and fewer of these specials get aired each year. And we aren't getting many new ones. So I thought it would be fun to talk about a few of my favorites.

Garfield's Halloween Adventure AKA Garfield in Disguise

This classic special from my childhood first aired in 1985 on CBS. And I watched it every year until sometime in the mid 90s. I even had it recorded on a Betamax tape for awhile.Garfield and Odie go out trick or treating dressed up as pirates. They end up in a boat going down and a river and thanks to a mis-communication end up beached on an island with a creepy mansion. Where they get attacked by pirate ghosts.

Sure currently Garfield has been stuck in a rut for 20 years. But back in the mid 80s he was at his peak. I am pretty sure this special was the first of many Garfield specials. And it became one I had to see each year.

In the mid 2000s I realized I had not seen it air in years. Did some research and while it has gotten a DVD release, This release is edited. So I searched for years for an unedited copy. And just a few weeks back I found a rip of someone's recording from the mid 80s.

My friends asked me to gather together some movies, holiday specials and cartoons for us to watch today. So this one was quickly added to the viewing list. Garfield's Halloween Adventure gets a B.

Beavis and Butthead Halloween special

This special first aired in October 1995 on MTV. By this time my cable company had dropped MTV and replaced it with VH1.Thankfully one of my best friends lived in another part of Moss Point and still got MTV. So the night this aired we all gathered together, drank way too much beer and laughed so damn hard.

It is Halloween and Beavis and Butthead want to go trick or treating. Beavis puts a pair of briefs on his head. And says he is dressed up as a nad. Butthead dumps liquid cheese all over himself and says he is nachos. We get your typical Beavis and Butthead hyjinx. And lots of the videos played during the episode have a horror or Halloween theme. The Beavis and Butthead Halloween Special gets a A-.

Claymation Comedy of Horrors

First airing on CBS,I think it was CBS,in 1991 this special is from Will Vinton studios. Who are best known for their California Raisins specials. And the classic Will Vinton Studios X-mas Special. Honestly I do not think I saw this special until about a week ago. While watching it I remembered nothing about it. And by 91  I was more worried about what parties I was going to at Halloween than watching holiday specials.

The animation is the excellent stuff we saw in the Raisin commercials and their classic X-mas special. And as with everything else from Will Vinton the humor is really good. With stuff that works for the kids that are watching. And other jokes that will fly over the kids heads but get the adults to laugh.Claymation Comedy of Horrors gets a B.

Roseanne

I love the Roseanne sitcom. And almost every year the best episode was the Halloween one. The Connors reminded me of a family that lived near me when I was younger. They were working class and didn't have much extra cash. But they saved up year round so they would have extra money to spend on costumes and for decorations for their home for Halloween. I looked forward each year to seeing what the Connors dressed up as.And how they decorated their home.

Two of the Halloween episodes stand out in my memory. The first one has Roseanne just not feeling Halloween that year. So instead of going to the lodge Halloween party she stays at home. Falls asleep on the couch and gets visited by the Ghosts of Halloween Past,Present and Future. And like in the previous and future Halloween Roseanne episodes she has a great prank planned. My favorite part of the episode is when we got the past. And get to see Roseanne in High school at a Halloween dance. She dresses up as Ginger from Gilligan's Island,"You know if they had never made it to the island."It wasn't until re-watching it last year that I realized teenage Roseanne is played by a young Sara Rue.

The other episode I really love is a much later one. Jackie is married to Fred now. And Jackie and Dan are  trying to pull a great prank on Roseanne. My memory might be bad but I seem to remember they have placed a bet. And if they can prank Roseanne they win something. After many attempts,it looks like Dan and Jackie have given up. Then Roseanne walks into her bedroom and catches Dan in bed with Fred.

I know Anchor Bay and now Mill Creek have put out dvds that have all the Roseanne Halloween episodes. Usually in October I see this DVD selling for $5.Which it is totally worth. The Roseanne Halloween episodes get a B- overall. With the two I mentioned above getting A's.

It's the Great Pumpkin,Charlie Brown

First airing October 27th 1966 on CBS,this is the first Halloween special I remember seeing. And besides for 1 year in the mid 90s,I have watched it each October.

I got a good feeling that everyone reading this has seen it. So instead of explaining the plot in my trademarked halfass way, I will just focus on the things and moments in the special that stand out for me.

The picture above shows the main Peanuts gang in their Halloween costumes. I love how each costume is a white sheet with either holes cut out to see through or a mask. The one kid with the Davy Crockett hat on top of the sheet is my favorite. Now I have seen plenty of Halloween costumes. But never seen in person someone use an old sheet to be a ghost. Another standout moment is when Snoopy is day dreaming. And he is engaged in some dogfights ,while using his doghouse as a plane. Plus as is normal with the early Charlie Brown Holiday specials the music in this one is a great jazzy sounding mixture. It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown gets a perfect A+.

It was last year in October when I was lamenting how there hadn't been a new Halloween cartoon special on any of the broadcast networks in years. Then I was reading a blog and saw that ABC had aired a new one. "Toy Story of Terror" is the next entry in Pixar's Toy Story franchise. I quickly found a copy and reviewed it last year. Toy Story of Terror review . The toys are with their new owner, this is set after Toy Story 3,and are on a vacation. They are all in the trunk of the car watching some old horror film on a portable dvd player. The car blows a tire and the family quickly pulls over at a roadside motel.Where creepy things start happening. I love how a Pez is included in this special.

Toy Story of Terror gets a A.

So I got a favor to ask anyone reading this. In the comments below tell me what your favorite Halloween special is.

Top 5 cartoons of my childhood that suck

There is so many cartoons I loved when I was a kid. That now I have grown up and I go back and re-watch them I realize they suck.

5.GI Joe a real American Hero

When I was a kid I rushed home every day and would sit there holding onto the rabbit ears so I could watch this cartoon.Once it was off the air I didn't see it until Rhino released the first season on DVD.Holy fuck is this shit.Bad writing, subpar animation and just crap. Sadly there is plenty of people my age that still claim this is a great cartoon.Sorry guys and ladies I truly believe that is just nostalgia coloring your opinion.

4.Masters of the Universe

This was another I rushed home to see.Now I didn't have to hold onto the rabbit ears.Because it aired on a channel I could get with just the rooftop antenna. When BCI put out the first season on DVD I grabbed it the day it went on sale.Fuck this show is total shit. From all the re-used animation. To the shoehorned in moral lessons. But once again you have people talking about it like it was one of the best cartoons of it's era.

3.Voltron

I can clearly remember my Art teacher talking about how bad the animation in this show was.And I argued with him about it.Then what was it almost 10 years ago Adult Swim started rerunning it late at night.I recorded a bunch. The Art teacher was right, the animation is total shit. With certain scenes used in every episode. Plus the stories I remember as being mind blowing when I was 10 or so are so badly done.Full of cliches.

2.Super Friends

By the time I was 5 this was airing every weekday on a local UHF channel. Then every Saturday on ABC IIRC.And being a young comic geek I had to watch it.Then in the late 90s Cartoon Network started rerunning it.And like everything else so far on this list I was majorly disappointed. The villains were all bad.Bad animation, and even the voice acting is bad.I will admit to enjoying the final two seasons. But even them are not that good.

1.Transformers

This is the one that most males my age and a bit young love. And I did when I was a kid.Once again I got the DVDs when Rhino started releasing them. And discovered it has to be one of the worst cartoons of the 80s.Well maybe not the worst, but the worst that gets so much praise.I actually sat down 5 years ago and watched every episode. And there is maybe 3 I found worth a shit. But to most geeks that grew up in the 80s this show is untouchable.

Blackstar the forgotten prototype for Masters of the Universe

Blackstar

Back in the fall of 1981 a new cartoon premiered on CBS Saturday morning. This  was Blackstar. John Blackstar is an astronaut who is sucked through a black hole and ends up on the planet Sagar. After arriving he meets the trobbits, which are pink hobbit like creatures that live in a tree. Blackstar ends up fighting off the evil Overlord. During this battle Overlord's weapon, the Powersword, splits into two parts. Blackstar ends up with one half and Overlord has the other half. The rest of the series is mainly about Overlord trying to get back the half of the Powersword that Blackstar has.

When I was a young kid this was my favorite cartoon. But sadly it only lasted one season. Blackstar was done by Filmation. And if you watch it you can see how lots of the plots and ideas from this cartoon were used later on in Filmation's Masters of the Universe cartoon. I can remember when I first saw the Masters of the Universe cartoon a few years later I was mad that it had ripped off Blackstar so much.

Now I never remember seeing this show ever in reruns or syndication. But from 1983 through 1985 the Galoob toy company produced a bunch of action figures. Each of the good guy figures came packages with a PVC figure of one of the Trobbits. Also I remember having one that had a flint sparker in the figure that made a symbol on the chest light up.

By the mid 2000's I had pretty much forgotten about this cartoon. Then BCI put out a DVD set that all 13 episodes. Some of which even have commentaries. I quickly bought it and sat down to watch it. Surprisingly it holds  up as good if not better than Masters of the Universe. This DVD set is out of print now. But isn't that expensive.

After doing some research I found out that over in France there was a short lived comic book based on the cartoon. I would love to find some copies, even though I can't read french. It seems weird that neither DC or Marvel did a comic book based on Blackstar. But that might be cause it only had the one short season.

With all the various 80's cartoon series coming back and getting comic books,I would love to see more Blackstar stories. Sadly this cartoon is mostly forgotten. Even among people of my age group most of them have no idea what I am talking about when I mention Blackstar. The Blackstar cartoon and DVD set get a solid B+.

Wolverine and the X-men Volume 2 Deadly Enemies

Prior to watching this DVD I had seen a few random episodes of this ,the newest cartoon based on the X-men franchise. This DVD contains 5 episodes. The stand outs are the first one on the disc, which has Storm now back in Africa. Back in her role as weather Goddess. She ends up getting possessed by the Shadow King. And starts using her weather control powers to devastate Africa. The X-men team comes in and thanks to Emma Frost manages to get the Shadow King outta Storm's mind. And Storm stops the massive deadly weather she has started. This is also the episode were Storm rejoins the X-men. The next episode is all about how now that mutants are public knowledge and being hunted down by the government, a lot of them are booking passage on various cargo ships to Genosha. Genosha is an island that is ruled by Magneto that is a safe place for all of mutant kind. Nightcrawler stows away on a ship and before they make it to Genosha, the ship is attacked by pirates. Who seem to be lead by Spiral, who has the Reavers as her muscle. It seems they are attacking these ships bound to Genosha, and taking captive the more powerful of the mutants aboard to be used in a kinda of "Gladiator" challenge to the death. After they have attacked and disabled the ship that Nightcrawler is on,and taken the mutants they wanted. Nightcrawler uses the young mutant kids that are left to pursue Spiral's band of pirates. And they manage to take down Spiral and the Reavers and sink their pirate ship. The X-men arrive after the fact and Nightcrawler rejoins the team. Then we get a coda to the story were it is revealed that Spiral is working for Mojo. And I get a strong feeling that this will lead to more story lines either later this season or in the next season. Then you have what I consider one of the best animated things to ever come outta Marvel comics. The episode starts out with Wolverine in the city being chased by the government's special anti-mutant team AKA MRD. Wolvie is heavily out numbered but then a huge helicopter lands and Nick Fury of Shield sends the MRD out,and ask to speak with Wolverine. It seems the Hulk is up in the Canadian Rockies,He is very mad and has already destroyed 3 cities and will soon cross the border over into the USA. Wolverine at first doesn't want to go on this mission, but Fury blackmails him,by telling him the Shield has info on all the X-men that he is more than happy to turn over to the MRD. So Wolvie agrees to go try to stop the Hulk. He is dropped off in the wilderness of Canada. And soon realizes that Fury hasn't given him all the facts. It seems that a hiker up in this area has gotten the curse of the Wendigo. Which turns a normal human into a huge white version of a Sasquatch. Wolvie manages to track down Hulk and by a knockout gas grenade to the mouth, gets the Hulk to turn back into Bruce Banner. While they are regrouping in a cave,Banner reveals that he was working with Shield ,and was gonna use one of the various chemicals that he has used unsuccessfully to cure him from being the Hulk, and Shield thinks this formula will cure the man who has the curse of the wendigo. Banner and Wolverine are on their way to the crashed helicopter that has the cure in it,when they are attacked by about 5 or 6 wendigos. It seems when the first wendigo bites someone he transfers the curse to the victim. After a long battle Wolverine and Banner manage to get some darts that have the cure inside them and turn all the Wendigos back to their human forms. But Wolverine finds a Shield emblem on one of the former Wendigos. So when Fury shows back up to take Wolvie and Banner back to America,Wolverine reveals that he has found out that Nick Fury and Shield are behind the first Shield agent becoming a wendigo. This pisses Wolverine off,so he goes and hits Banner with a massive sucker punch. and leaves. Of course the sucker punch gets Banner angry and Fury and his agents are left with a massively pissed off Hulk to deal with. After watching all the episodes on this DVD I have found that the show is well written and has very good animation. I plan on getting all the other episodes that have gotten a DVD release. And watching the second season when Nicktoons Network finally airs it. Wolverine and the X-men Volume 2 earns a A-.

31 days of horror Day 1

It is simple I'm gonna watch one horror movie a night for 31 days.

The Haunted World of El Superbeasto

Source-Anchor Bay dvd

The long talked about Rob Zombie animated movie is here. Based on a comic I have never read,it is a mixture of all kinds of standard horror cliches. The story is simple and basic but works within the framework of the movie. El Superbeasto is a retired luchadore who along with his sister,Suzi X,fight crime in MonsterCity. What can you find wrong in a movie that has Zombie Nazis,Super Smart Ape Servants, and A stripper that uses her breasts as weapons? The animation reminds me alot of the Spumco style, with alot of extreme close ups,and very exaggerated movement. I ended up enjoying it,but wouldn't pay more than $10 for it. Overall it's a B-.

Great comics you can share with children 01

Most people of my generation fondly remember the long running Super Friends cartoon. I had known for years that there was also a Super Friends comic book, but until earlier this year I had never read an issue. But when I won a lot of 80 random comics on e-bay this little gem was in the lot. This issues stands out to me mainly cause it is one of the few appearances of the pre-Vertigo Black Orchid. Her powers were never fully explained but it was known she was a master of disguise. Great easy to understand story combined with nice clean art equals a great comic you can share with your kids/nephews/nieces/etc. I have looked around for more issues of this nice and fun series, but the few I have found are either in bad shape or priced over what I am willing to pay. The good story and art, plus an appearance of one of my favorite DC super heroines makes me give this comic an 8 outta 10.
