TITLE-Southern Bastards #16
PUBLISHER-Image
Fuck yeah the two Jasons are back with another issue of Southern Bastards.
With the Rebs losing their past 2 games Coach Boss is gonna make sure they don't lose a third in the row. So him and 2 of his guys head to the home of the star player of a rival team.
It looks like Coach Boss is gonna injury the kid bad enough so he has to miss a game. But the kid stands up and explains how it was Coach Boss that inspired him to be the best he can be on the field.
And of course during all this Coach's goons are holding the kid's parents at gun point. The parents turn the tables and it gets nasty. Both of the parents get shot/beaten so bad they end up in intensive care.
It looks like the Rebs got the game won. When the star player kid actually shows up. The game ends a tie, which we find out from a radio that a few of Coach Boss's goons are listening too. Out of nowhere two guys armed with fully automatic weapons shoot and kill the goons.
As it has so far with each issue Southern Bastards ends leaving you hoping that in 4 weeks you will get another issue.

2016 Comic Challenge 274 Southern Bastards #15
TITLE-Southern Bastards #15
PUBLISHER-Image
Picking up after the end of the last story, the Running Rebs are trying to deal with their devastating loss last issue.
One of the coach's guys offers to take a few of the players over to an opposing teams home, beat the fuck out of him and make it look like a robbery. Coach turns this down, proving my point that in small southern towns High School Football on Friday night is the true Sabbath.
The Rebs think they are ready for their next game. Then get their asses handed to them again. So Coach makes a call and seems the "robbery" plan is in motion.
On the other side we keep seeing Roberta in the background all over the issue. At the end when Coach grabs Roberta's father's old stick it looks like next issue will start with a fight.
The delay this time thankfully wasn't that long. Art and story are as great as they have always been.

2016 Comic Challenge 165 Southern Bastards #14
TITLE-Southern Bastards #14
PUBLISHER-Image
So after a few months wait we get the conclusion to the current story in Southern Bastards. Seems Earl, the guy who died in the first story, had a daughter. Who is ex-military and has come home. Also forgot she is half-black. Which of course goes over big with the racist inbreds of the town.
Even though I had to wait a bit over 2 months to get this issue, fuck was it worth the wait. Aaron perfectly captures how it is to live in a small southern town. And what it is like if you are living there and not white/straight and Christian.

2016 Comic Challenge 055 Dr Strange #02
TITLE-Dr Strange #02
PUBLISHER-Marvel
So some kind of goblin looking demons have come out of the librarian's head and Dr Strange's magic is acting strange.
Holy fuck is this good. Aaron has managed to take what made Lee/Ditko's Dr Strange tales so good. And put his own twist on them while staying true to Dr Stranges core.
Chris Bachalo's art is so good. Been a fan of his since I saw his art on the first Death mini series from Vertigo. And he is a great artist for Dr Strange.

2016 Comic Challenge 044 Southern Bastards #013
TITLE-Southern Bastards #13
PUBLISHER-Image
Growing up in a tiny southern town, were High school football is king, this series really connected with me. Instead of your normal southern caricatures we get people that seem so real.
This issue is the night of a big football game. And Coach Boss' team hasn't lost a game in a long time. But their opponents have a secret weapon. And thanks to him they end up slaughtering the Running Rebs.
I love how Image has changed since they first started. Early Image was all Marvel clones. But now Image puts out some of the best non-superhero titles I have seen in years.
