31 Days of Horror 2024 Day 24 Deathbed

TITLE-DeathBed

SOURCE-Full Moon/Shadow DVD

With used dvds 50 cents to a buck on average in my area I will grab stuff often to watch once and then give away. Saw this dvd on the shelf at a local junkstore. Was the booth with dollar dvds buy 10 get 2 more free. Deathbed and also Stuart Gordon's Castle Freak on a DVD for free sure.

And then it sat on the shelf for months. October is when the season finally start changing to fall in my area and seasons changing always mess with my sleep pattern. Leading to lots of nights in October where I am up all night. And ever since I was young I love to stay up late, just me in the living room watching a movie and reading a comic book. That is why yall might notice most of these reviews are hitting before 6am.

So Deathbed? What a pile of crap. Made during that short time when Full Moon was know as Shadow, not really sure why the name change, this feels like a really low budget attempt to get some of the attention all the Softcore/Horror combo films were getting. Stuff like the many Witchcraft films.

A couple ends up with a bed that back in the 1920s a murder happened on. This caused this couple to go nutty. And Nothing about this boring ass movie could keep my attention.

The FX is crap, the acting is crap. The plot is barely enough to fill 20 minute much less a full length film.

Only reason to buy this DVD is if you don't already have Castle Freak. Oh and to listen to the commentary on this movie. It has the director and Stuart Gordon and it feels more like those two chatting at a panel at a con than a commentary.

Fuck Deathbed!

31 Days of Horror 2024 Day 08 Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl A Rama II

TITLE-Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl A Rama 2

SOURCE-TUBI Streaming App

Once I started this up and saw it was barely over an hour I knew it would more than likely suck. I was right.

The Sorority from the original film has fallen on hard times. They only got 2 members and 2 girls wanting to join. The house mother,Kellie Maroney, tells the girls about what happened in the first film.

Like in the first film there is a few goofball boys that are peeping on the girls trying to join. But it being what almost 40 years later instead of looking in a window they have just set up a mini camera in the bathroom facing the shower.

1 hour and 1 minutes including the long credits and it takes almost 30 minutes before we get to the bowling alley. Which I am pretty sure is the same one from the original, which was also in one of the Evil Bong movies.

Trophy gets broken of course. Out comes the Imp,who is creativly shot so you aren't suppose to notice he is very limited in his movements. But also we get the return of Brinke Stevens and Michelle Bauer as spirits of their characters from the first film.

The Imp grants wishs that backfire and once we hit the 50 minute mark the film is wrapping up.

Wow this was bad. I know modern Full Moon is usually short films that are barely over an hour and feel more like half a film. This felt like they had a 20 minute film they added whatevver it took to make it an hour.

Avoid this turd.

31 Days of Horror 2021 Day 24 Trophy Heads

TITLE-Trophy Heads

SOURCE-Full Moon DVD

Now I have been into the films from Full Moon since I saw Puppet Master for rent at a video store 30 years ago. But over the last 10 years I kind of lost touch with Full Moon. So when in 2014 Full Moon did Trophy Heads as a tv show on their streaming service I didn't hear about it.

It wasn't until sometime early this year that I learned the movie existed. CodyLL,who is better known to people that watch the Asshat Podcast youtube channel, was telling me about the movie. And once he mentioned Jaqueline Lovell was in the film I had to see it. Thankfully Cody isn't a Full Moon fan,so he offered to throw the Trophy Heads DVD into the next package he was going to mail me.The package came in and the DVDs in it got added to the ever growing DVD watch pile.

Back in the end of spring I had taken to sitting out on my pier after dinner. I would sit down there and watch DVDs on my laptop as I edited video footage. Usually I was watching DVDs of stuff I had never seen. And one of those evenings I watched Trophy Heads and LOVED IT!

A middle age horror fan,who lives in the basement of his mother's home, has started kidnapping the famous Scream Queens of the 80s thru 90s. He makes them stay in jail cells he has in his home. Then one by one the Scream Queens are made to act in recreations of some of their most famous scenes. Once the Scream Queens are dead our Incelish lead male mounts their heads on his wall.

Now I figured going into this that it's start as a original series for Full Moon's streaming service and the low budget would produce a boring unfunny unscary horror/comedy from Full Moon. One that barely runs 70 minutes and that is with 12 minutes of credits. Sure the origin of this as a series of short films is obvious when you watch the movie. And the low budget hurts some of the scenes. But every member of the cast is having a blast and this energy shines through.

Speaking of the cast,Charles Band got a great cast. Most of whom I'm pretty sure have worked on Full Moon films before. All the Scream Queens are playing slightly fictionalized versions of themselves.

Brinke Stevens,my favorite of the 80s/90s era Scream Queens,is supposedly a massage therapist. Ms Stevens has always been great at comedy and in Trophy Heads she gets some of the best lines and scenes. Pretty sure Brinke's film Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity was a Full Moon movie.

Up next on the Scream Queen front is Darcy DeMoss. I had to look her up and even then still only thing I knew her from was Friday the 13th Part 6. She plays Nikki in that classic. Appears this is her first Full Moon film.

The 3rd Scream Queen is the main reason I wanted to see this film, that is Jacqueline Lovell. I first saw Ms Lovell in Full Moon's Head of the Family. She was great in that and all the other B-movies I saw her in for about a 15 year period. Then she just disappeared. I had heard rumors of her getting married. And now that she was ashamed of her b-movie past, plus she wasn't happy about her stint in softcore porn as Sara St James. First off Jacqueline looks exactly the same as she did in the last film I saw her in 15 years ago. And I looked her up. Appears I was partially right. She did stop acting after she got married and had her first kid. But saw no proof that she was ashamed of the films she did in her past.

Ya can't have a Scream Queen reunion style film without Linnea Quigley. AFAIK Linnea has never been in a Full Moon film before. Sure early in her career she was in Fairy Tales. But that film was made 10 years at least before Full Moon existed. But it did have Charles Band as the director.  Shit I forgot Linnea  was in Sorority Babes in the SlimeBall Bowl-a-rama film.Linnea is great in this cause she is playing herself, but now she is a hardcore Christian. Who goes around knocking on doors and trying to convert people to the ways of Jesus.

Michelle Bauer completes the infamous trio of 80s Scream Queens, her and Brinke and Linnea were the best known of that era's Scream Queens. Michelle has always shown that she has a good sense of comedic timing. And is given the chance to really show that skill off in this film. As a Full Moon connection Ms Bauer was also in Sorority Babes in the SlimeBall Bowl-A-Rama with Linnea and Brinke Stevens.

And our final Scream Queen is Denice Duff. I didn't know who she was when I saw her. The name sounded a bit familiar but I had no clue what I knew her from. Looked her up and she was in Full Moon's SubSpecies series of films. I was never a big fan of that series of films from Full Moon. But Denice is decent in this movie.

Adam Roberts and Maria Olsen are both excellent as the horror fan and his mother. Olsen is so good as the Mom who is doing all she can to help her grown Man Child kidnap and then kill these Scream Queens.

Now sure if you didn't grow up watching all the films these Scream Queens were in I don't know how much appeal this movie will have for you. But if you were one of us that was renting stuff like Nightmare Sisters and Creepazoid from the video store Trophy Heads is worth seeing.

31 Days of Horror 2020 Day 02 Evil Bong High 5

TITLE-Evil Bong High 5
SOURCE-Tubi TV streaming service

Well at least this time the movie is over an hour. Which I hope means we get a full plot. Rabbit,Larnell,Sarah and Velicity are stuck in Bong World. But Rabbit thinks he has figured a way out. He has created a new way of life called Nothing Head. When he empty's his mind he has access to great powers.

But before he can use his new powers to escape the Bong World,EeBee shows up and says she is sending Larnell,Rabbit and Gingerdead Man to the real world. Where they have to make a shitpile of money in a short amount of time. If they don't EeBee's evil women, played by Pornstar Skin Diamond and some generic looking blonde lady, will pleasure Sarah and Velicity to death.

Now back in the real world Larnell,Rabbit and Gingerdead Man open up a headshop, kinda like Larnell and the guys had in part 3. And try to make the money by selling EeBee's magic weed.

This just leads to various people coming in to buy weed and what amounts to short skits. We get appearances from Hambo,Joe Cracker,The Gook and his lady and others.

The guys, well 2 guys and a killer animated cookie, don't make the money in time. But Rabbit manages to use his new powers to stop EeBee. And it ends setting us up for the next installment of what is now Full Moon's second biggest franchise,of course Puppet Master is their biggest franchise

Ok so this is better than the previous film. But it ain't great. Pretty much unless you just gotta see every Full Moon film I would say stream this on Tubi TV or maybe luck into a DVD copy for cheap.

Just like the last Evil Bong film a good chunk of this movie feels like an advertisment for the Full Moon website.

31 Days of Horror 2020 Day 01 Evil Bong 420

TITLE-Evil Bong 420
SOURCE-Tubi TV Streaming service

Earlier this year I learned that you can use a free program and download the movies/tv shows off Tubi TV. This way you can not only watch them at times you don't have internet access but you get the bonus of no ads.

For those that don't know Tubi TV,found online at Tubi.TV, is a free streaming app. It is loaded with piles of movies that fans of cult/horror/sci fi would enjoy seeing. The films are usually uncut but you do get short ad breaks during the films. Never more than say 8 minutes of ads in your normal 1&1/2 hour long film.

So I had been wanting to watch some of the newer Full Moon films. Saw Tubi had a Full Moon channel. And that channel had all 8 films in the Evil Bong franchise. Having already seen Evil Bong 1 thru 3 I figured that Evil Bong 420 would be the next one to watch...I was wrong.

Seems I should have watched Evil Bong vs Gingerdead Man before Evil Bong 420.But really this is a Evil Bong film I wasn't lost or confused for very long.

After escaping from Bong World, and bringing some of EeBee's magic weed,Rabbit opens up the Lickey Splits Topless bowling alley. This bowling alley is the same one that Sorority Babes in the Slime Bowl Bowl a Rama movie, and this piece of trivia was pointed out during David Decoutou's short cameo.

Rabbit's big idea to make money has two big points. First off he has hired 3 ladies to be the waitresses.
One of them refuses to be topless, which doesn't make sense with it being a TOPLESS Bowling alley. And another of the waitress is the gorgeous Sam Aotaki, best known from her lead role in the modern cult classic Asian School Girls,a great rape/revenge film made by The Asylum.Second point is Rabbit has two options for the bowlers. First off is the standard renting of shoes and a lane. The other option is "The Gutterball" which gets you a lane to bowl and bowling shoes, plus Rabbit puts a bag of EeBee's magic weed in one of the bowling shoes.

Opening night the bowling alley has a decent crowd. With a few of them being the humans the Bad Ass Dolls, introduced in the Full Moon Film Ooga Booga, are based on. So we get to see modern Full Moon characters like Joe Cracker, who pisses off Ooga Booga by stealing money from a black couple. The Gook, who is there bowling with his girlfriend, and I am pretty sure Butt Pirate made a small cameo.

Larnell, who appears to have taken over as the lead since Alistar quit after the 3rd film, and Sarah, played by the uber talented and funny Robin Sydney, come in to bowl. And this is when we learn that while in Bong World,Rabbit has become the Macguyver of weed stuff. Sarah starts getting mad at Larnell. So Rabbit whips out the Weed Blower. A modified leaf blower that shoots out highly concentrated burst of weed smoke. This calms Sarah down and we go straight to the next kinda unconnected plot piece.

Hambo comes into the bowling alley.Yep Hambo from Ooga Booga. He thinks since "Dem Kids are into Retro. They will want pics with Ole Hambo and want to buy my BADASSDOLLS!"

All the stuff with Hambo feels like padding plus Charles Band wanting to advertise the Full Moon Website. They even throw across the bottom of the screen the url where you can buy the Bad ASS DOLLS!

I am wondering where this film is going? So far it feels more like a Evil Bong TV show and we just keep getting the opening arch of stories. I looked to see how much time was left and see the entire film is only 53 minutes !!! WTF Charles Band. I know in the last 15 years Full Moon has started making their films 65 minutes to 78 minutes long. But this is under an hour!!. I went after finishing the movie and timed how long the opening and closing credits are...between the two sets of credits 7 minutes or so of screen time is used up. So that means the film is really just 45 or so minutes long.

Out of nowhere and never really explained why or how The Gingerdead man shows up from Bong World. He ends up hooking up with one of the waitresses. And we get a scene of GingerDead Man having sex with this lady... Oh and I should mention now how cheap the puppet effects are. Ooga Booga, who shows up twice, looks like someone is right off camera shaking him around. With Gingerdead Man his mouth is superimposed on him, kinda like how that old cartoon Clutch Cargo was.

Well it kinda being a horror movie we need some deaths. Which happens after Joe Cracker steals money from the black couple bowling by him. Ooga Booga hides out in the ball return. And when Cracker goes to find his ball,Ooga stabs Joe in the eye.

Rabbit keeps going around blasting people with the Weed Blower, which we find out is full of EeBee's magic weed. And pretty soon everyone is high off EeBee's magic weed. EeBee shows up. Is pissed. And since everyone has smoked her magic weed she uses her powers to bring Larnell,Rabbit,Sarah and some blonde lady that i guess was added to the series in Evil Bong vs Gingerdead man.

And the movie ends. Yep like I have said this feels more like the opening segments of a few different episodes of the nonexistant Evil Bong tv show.

Man I was hoping this would be like the previous 3 Evil Bong films. Sure they weren't amazing but they were a ok way to kill an hour and change and I would laugh at least a few times.

Evil Bong 420 made me laugh once. It feels like Charles Band and Full Moon took a film and cut it into two movies. Like what Lloyd Kaufman did with Toxic Avenger 2 and 3. There is really no conflict in this movie. No real plot.  It feels more like a way for Band to add even more Full Moon franchises to the Evil Bong universe. Almost like Band is seeing how the MCU is a huge success and he is making a Full Moon Cinematic Universe. But since these films don't play cinemas would this instead be the Full Moon Streaming Universe?

Well I said I wanted to see all the Evil Bong films, and while this one was crap(well besides getting to see the gorgeous Sam Aotaki) cause of how it ended I am gonna watch Evil Bong High 5 soon.

Evil Bong 420 gets a D.

31 Days of Horror Day 28 Zombies VS Strippers

TITLE-Zombies vs Strippers
SOURCE-The Dead Walking 10 movie DVD set from Echo Bridge

Yea I grabbed this set back months ago. Friend of a friend works at a tiny pawn shop in a tiny town east of me. Tells us that as long as we buy at least 10 bucks worth we can get dvds/blu rays for a buck each. So we went one day and got all kinds of stuff. Grabbed this set mostly cause it was 10 films for a buck and Zombies Vs Strippers sounded like it would be either so bad it was good or just straight up trash.

First off Echo Bridge put 5 films on each single sided DVD. So these movies are heavily compressed. It looks like those vhs rips to DVD-r you would see SumGuy selling at cons in 2003 thru 2005. Watchable and the audio is clear, but it isn't crisp and someimes the sound is a bit muffled.

I start the film see it is not long,1 hour and 15 minutes, and it is from Full Moon. Which means it is either gonna be boring and not worth watching. Or cheesy as fuck and somewhat entertaining. Thankfully it is the latter.

A shitty strip club, the Tough Titty,is about to close. This is the last night it is open, cause the owner has sold the land and building. Then some zombies invade.

A group of survivalist end up in the club. Which adds some action. But yea there isn't much to this really short film. Tits, short bursts of low budget action and a few laughs.

Oddly Full Moon got no one known for this film. Well outside of the actor who has played Hambo in a few of the modern Full Moon films. He has a cameo in this.

The gore effects aren't bad. Some are practical some are digital. And both are cheaply done but not at the level of say a Made for SYFY movie.

I was surprised at the lack of nudity in the film. I figured it being Full Moon they would go all out. But nope.

There is a stand out scene near the end. The bouncer has been infected and is having sex with one of the strippers when he turns into a zombie. SHe doesn't realize this and gets bit. So a bit later our two leads, the sleazy strip club owner and the lead brunette stripper, bust in on the two zombies banging away!!

Not long after this a flood of zombies invade the club and in  a scene I am sure Charles Band ripped off from Return of the Living Dead Part 2 well... Just look at the pic below.
Michael Jackson Thriller era zombie appears LOL. And the black stripper, named Vanilla,of course makes a comment about this.

For a modern era Full Moon film this isn't bad. The low budget is very obvious. But the fx work isn't as bad as most modern Full Moon movies. The acting is a hair above what you normally get from a newer Charles Band film. What surprised me is how little nudity there is in the film. It being about strippers, set at a strip club and coming from Full Moon I was expecting piles of at least topless nudity. I mean it isn't like there is no nudity, but there is way way less than I expected. I do like how Band is inserting tiny things in most of the newer Full Moon movies to show they all happen in the same cinematic universe.

As far as I know this is the third stripper vs zombies film made in the US. There is Zombie Strippers, which I reviewed a few years back. That one has Robert Englund and Jenna Jameson. Then there is Zombie Zombie Zombies. Haven't seen this yet.

31 Days of Horror Day 07 Puppet Master The Littlest Reich

TITLE-Puppet Master The Littlest Reich
SOURCE-Shudder streaming service

This came out in 2018 and is the 12 official film in the Puppet Master franchise. Yea Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys doesn't count as an official film. I had heard this was a damn good film but never saw the dvd for sale. Then months ago got Shudder, which is AMC's horror streaming service, and saw Shudder had the movie.

Thomas Lennon is a comic book artist that works in a comic shop. Him,his girlfriend and his boss from the comic shop goto a convention near the hotel from the first Puppet Master film. The convention is based around Andre Toulan.

Most of the people that come to the convention bring with them puppets. Lots of which were stolen from Toulan. And fairly quickly the puppets come to life and start killing people.

And wow this is the bloodiest film in the franchise. Get to see Torch burn a Jewish couple alive. And see the flesh slowly liquefying. Then get to see Blade cut a guy's achilles tendon and wow is it bloody.

A neat thing is Barbara Crampton is in the film. As an Ex-cop. Which comes in handy cause the last 30 minutes of the film has all the cast trapped in a hotel with only a few guns.

This entry in the series really feels like the original. But with a bigger budget. The puppet effects look really good. The gore is well done. And the cast is a nice mixture of people you know and unknowns.

The best part is so many new puppets get introduced. Like the Lil Hitler puppet that possesses a guy. Or this puppet that is half puppet half flying drone.

Anyways if you enjoy the Puppet Master films and want something closer to the good entires this is worth tracking down.

31 Days of Horror Day 30 Dead and Rotting

Title-Dead and Rotting
Source-DVD

3 idiots, one played by Trent Haaga, end up killing a local witch's cat. Turns out the cat is the witch's son. So she cast a spell that turns her into Debbie Rochon and gets her revenge on the 3 idiots.

IIRC this is from the era when JR  Bookwalter was working with Full Moon.  And while the film is low budget,Bookwalter knows how to make a decent entertaining movie with a low budget.

The acting is pretty good, with Rochon and Haaga being the stand outs. The FX work is well done.

This is worth at least a rental for any horror fan looking for a fun way to kill 1 1/2 hours.

31 Days of Horror Day 26 Gingerdead Man 2 Passion of the crust

Title-Gingerdead Man 2 Passion of the Crust
Source-Echo Bridge DVD

I assume the first Gingerdead Man made a decent profit cause Full Moon has made 2 sequels and a crossover film with the Evil Bong franchise.

Set on the set of a low budget film. Our evil cookie shows up and starts killing people. So not that different from the first film.

Gary Busey didn't come back to play the Gingerdead Man. And with the film happening on the set of a low budget horror film we get bombarded with lots of inside movie nerd jokes.

The acting is kind of crap. But thankfully the FX work is decent.

31 Days of Horror Day 13 The Dead Want Women

TITLE-The Dead Want Women
FORMAT-Full Moon DVD

Last year for some reason the local Dirt Cheap got in 2 huge bins of this DVD. I guess they were not selling so the price quickly dropped to 50 cents. Sure modern Full Moon isn't always worth watching,Killjoy, but for 2 quarters I took a chance.

Back in the 20s with the invention of the sound era in cinema a former high profile actress loses her job. She freaks out and kills a bunch of people at her huge mansion. Decades later a realtor, who looks like she might be a porn star, goes to the place to see about selling it. And now the dead are back and they want women!

This it total modern era Full Moon cheese. They get a semi name actor,Biloxi MS native Eric Roberts, who is on set maybe 3 days. Then they get whoever else they can afford. The FX work is hit or miss. Sometimes it looks really good, other times it looks like they got the makeup at the local Dollar Tree. The acting is your normal modern era DTV level. The best of the cast is the obvious Fatty Arbuckle guy.

31 Days of Horror Day 01 Witchhouse

Title-Witchouse
Source-Full Moon DVD

Back when DVD was just starting to invade video stores I rented this movie. All I knew going in was it was from Full Moon. I watched it that time and kind of forgot about it. Then 3 years ago I found a boxed set of the first 3 Witchouse movies. So grabbed it and discovered that the movies were not as bad as I figured.

7 teens are invited over by their odd classmate Elizabeth. What they don't know is Elizabeth's ancestor Lilith is back from hell and wants revenge. For being murdered 300 years ago.

By the time this came out Full Moon was almost dead. So I was surprised at how good this turned out to be. Sure it is low budget and doesn't have the best cast of actors.

The plot is alot like Night of the Demons. But just on a low budget with not as good FX work.

31 Days of Horror 2015 Day 19 The Pit and the Pendulum

The Pit and the Pendulum
Source-Echo Bridge Midnight Horror DVD

When I was still fairly young I saw the AIP made Vincent Price Pit and the Pendulum film. And I loved it. So when in 90 or 91 I started hearing thru Fangoria magazine that Stuart Gordon was remaking it I wanted to see it. I got lucky and the local video store got in the unrated VHS.I watched it and was very impressed.

Skip ahead now to 2004. I caught a edited for TV airing of the movie on Sci Fi Channel and wanted to get it on DVD. The DVD was out of print. And selling for a bit more than I wanted to pay. I figured one day Full Moon would re-release the DVD.

Skip ahead about 8 more years,I am in my local Walmart waiting for my meds to be filled. So to pass the 30 minutes I had to wait I started digging in the $5 bin. I almost skipped this set. Mostly cause the last few Echo Bridge Midnight Horror sets I had bought were nothing but 2000s era DTV tripe. Then on the bottom of the cover I saw a smaller version of the poster at the top of this post. Thinking there was no way this would be the Stuart Gordon film,I flipped the DVD over and saw that yes it is the Stuart Gordon directed film, but sadly it is the R rated cut. No matter I wanted to see the film bad enough that I was willing to drop $5 for the set.

The plot is fairly simple the town baker's wife is falsely accused of being a witch by Lance Henrikson who plays Torquemada. So she get tortured and her husband seeks revenge. From what I can remember it seems the more sexualized violence is what got the most cuts in this R rated version. Even though with the cuts the film still pushes what you could get away with in an R rated film in the early 90s.

The FX work all looks to be practical FX work. And it is really well done practical FX work. For a Full Moon produced film this has a damn good cast. You got Lance as the lead villain. Plus Jeffery Combs and the late Tom Towels as supporting cast.

Besides it being the R rated cut the only other drawback is this version is full frame. Pretty sure by 91 Full Moon had either ended it relationship with Paramont or it was about to end.I doubt this played more than 20 theaters. And I have no idea what it's OAR is suppose to be. But this full frame version doesn't look like it is framed wrong or missing any major picture info.

31 Days of Horror 2015 Day 13 Zombiethon

Zombiethon
Source-Full Moon DVD

This is basically a highlight reel of any film Empire/Full Moon had the rights to that had zombies in it. So you got stuff like Fulci's Zombie,Oasis of the Zombies and many others. With the only original footage being kind of wraparound piece. About a woman that is being chased by zombies. So she hides out in a theater. That is full of zombies and is showing movies.

A few years back I got a VHS rip of this and reviewed it here on my blog. I knew Full Moon had put it out on a DVD.But it was 15 bucks which is much more than I wanted to spend. Then earlier this year I found it in a bodega. And they only wanted $5. It was mixed in with all the other DVDs they were selling. Which was all big mainstream movies. No clue how this oddball got mixed in there but I am happy it did.

The DVD looks slightly better than the VHS rip I saw.And the only extras are a short intro from Charles Band. And a bunch of trailers.

31 Days of Horror 2015 Day 07 Delta Delta Die!

Delta Delta Die!
Source-Full Moon Slashers 101 DVD

Back in 2004,it was a Friday night. And I didn't feel like going out. Had some friends over,so our plan was to split a 12 pack of beer and watch a cheesy horror film none of us had seen before. I walked across the street to the Hollywood Video store. Looked thru the kind of small horror DVD section. And grabbed Delta Delta Die!,now I could lie and say I grabbed it cause it is a slasher and I love slashers. But there was 4 drunk guys, plus me,wanting to see a cheesy horror film. And this being from Full Moon and having Brinke Stevens,Julie Strain and Tiffany Shepis I was sure it would be cheesy.

After that viewing I kind of forgot about Delta Delta Die.Not because it was a bad film, but mostly cause I had been really drunk when I watched it. So back this past summer I was waiting on someone to finish their shopping at one of the many Dollar Generals in my area. To kill time I was digging thru their DVD bins. Saw the above pictured DVD and it was only $7. And with each film having it's own disc I figured it was worth the price.

The film is about a college sorority. Where the sisters like to entice men over ,then eat them.So for right at 90 minutes we get scene after scene of the sisters getting various men to come over. Usually by promising the guys sex. Then the guys get killed and eaten.

The acting is decent. With Ms Shepis doing a great job. The FX work isn't bad. This came out at a time when Full Moon was struggling so most of their films had a real low budget look to them at the time. Not this one. It looks like something Lionsgate would have given a theatrical release. Really the main drawback to this film is it is about 15 minutes too long. Before most of the kills the sister that got the guy/guys to come over will do a strip tease. And all of these could have been cut down by a minute or so . That would have improved the pacing greatly.

31 Days of Horror Day 19 Sideshow

Sideshow
2000
Echo Bridge 20 pack DVD

This is a Full Moon film I had never heard of. But the premise sounded interesting. I am just old enough to barely remember when the county fair would have a sideshow.

A group of 5 teens.2 ladies and 3 guys, goto the local carnival. One of the guys is in a wheelchair and huge fan of sideshows. But of course everything is not as it seems.

Phil Fondacarlo plays the pitch man and is great as always.I was kind of surprised at how good this was. By 2000 Full Moon wasn't doing well. So the budget had to be pretty low. But the sets, costumes and FX work are really good.

Another neat thing about the film is that this is the only Full Moon film I know of that Fred Olen Ray directed. I was kind of surprised when I saw his name in the closing credits. The pack this came in is easy to find for $5 and it is worth that for this film by it self.

Full Moon is at it again with the third in this never ending series. Of course this cheap dvd is 2d. But I doubt the 3d makes much of a difference.

The 4 stoners from the first Evil Bong are back. A crusty looking bum discovers a weird looking bong hidden in a meteor. He brings it to the head shop that 3 of the 4 guys now run.

And of course just like in the first one,if you smoke from this Alien bong you get sucked into the bong world. Which is packed with dayglo painted naked women. Who drain the men of their sperm.

The uncle from the first film shows back up. This time as Dr Weed and he helps the guy figure out how to defeat the Alien Bong. Which they manage to do with help from the Evil Bong. Also the lovely and talented Robyn Sydney returns. And she is one of the best parts of the film.

Evil Bong 3 The Wrath of Bong gets a D.

31 Days of Horror Day 17 Castle Freak

Castle Freak-R rated cut
Echo Bridge Entertainment DVD
1995

I saw this not that long after it hit VHS back in the mid 90s. Just another film that proves the morons that repeat over and over how "NO GOOD HORROR CAME OUT IN THE 90s" are full of shit Boz. I had been wanting to re-watch this film. The above pictured pack was $5. So I got 4 films I didn't own already,The Reflecting Skin,The Faculty,Immortality and Castle Freak.

Somewhat based on the classic HP Lovecraft short story The Outsider. We get a good mid 90s Full Moon film from Stuart Gordon. Having seen a few "adaptations" of Lovecraft from Gordon,I went in expecting something entertaining.

Now sure I saw this back in 95,but I remembered almost nothing about it. I remembered Jeffrey Combs having a wreck that blinded his daughter. The Castle Freak looking decent. And a weird scene between Combs and a hooker.

Pretty sure I saw the uncut VHS years ago. And really no clue if that version is out on DVD. But this R rated cut was pretty bloody. The Freak still looks great and I was surprised that Barbara Crampton plays the mother.

So really if you see this pack for $5 grab it. You got 3 good films, and watchable films. Castle Freak R Rated cuts gets a B-.

31 days of Horror 2012 day 29

Evil Bong
2006
Echo Bridge The Midnight Horror Collection volume 1 DVD

Got this in a 8 pack of films for $5. Knew it was from Full Moon and really didn't go in expecting much from it.

New guy moves into what seems to be a decent sided studio apartment. He shares it with 3 other guys who are all big time stoners. They see an ad in High Times magazine for a supposedly possessed bong and order it. Whoever smokes too much out of the Evil Bong is the transported to this strip club, that seems to be inside the bong. Where they end up being killed by the strippers. Lots of cameos of characters from other Full Moon films. Then close to the end we get the top billed Tommy Chong. It seems Chong is the former owner of the bong and tells the new guy,who doesn't smoke, that the bong has a voodoo curse on it. Lots of shit that makes almost no sense happens. And the film ends with everyone but Chong out of the strip club inside the bong. The bong is broken and we see that Chong now lives in the strip club and is playing with his hot wheels.

Wow now I knew going in that most modern Full Moon films aren't that great. But this one seems like they weren't really trying at all. It might work better if you watch it while fucked up on your substance of choice. But watching it while sober is a long experience. Which is strange cause it is barely over an hour long. Evil Bong gets a D+.

31 days of horror year 3 day 10

Head of the Family

1996

Koch Vision DVD

I have been a fan of the Full Moon line up of films for many many years. Sure they turns out some bad films. But for every 2 bad ones you get 1 great film. Sadly they seem to put out nothing but crap now. I had heard a little about this film in Fangoria. So when in 97 I found the tape at a video store clearenced out for $2 I had to pick it up. And I have actually held onto that tape for years now.

Lance runs the local diner/grocery store. And is having an affair with Loretta. Loretta is played by the gorgeous Jacqueline Lovell. Who it seems quit acting about 8 years ago. She has a similar look to Kelly Bundy era Christina Applegate. Loretta wants to leave her husband, who is this big biker kind of guy. But is afraid of what he would do to her if she left him. Well one night after Lance and Loretta have snuck off to screw,Lance sees something that clues him in that the Stackpoole Family is stranger than people thought.

Well the next night Lance goes to the Stackpoole mansion. And tells them he won't let the cops now about how they are kidnapping people,if they will kill Loretta's husband. They do this. But Lance gets greedy and goes back and demands money every week or he will tell the cops. See the Stackpooles are a family of freaks. You got one who is all muscle and no brains. One who has enormous eyes and had super vision and hearing. One female that is drop dead gorgeous but dumber than my dog. Then you have Myron who is basically a big head. He is the so called head of the family.

Well the Stackpoole clan gets tired of Lance's shit and they kidnap both him and Loretta. He is strapped to a chair in their in house theater and made to watch as Loretta plays the lead in a play about Joan of arc. Well Loretta managers to escape and all the Stackpooles besides the big dumb muscle bond one die. So Loretta marrys him to get her hands on the fortune the Stackpoole family has. But right after the wedding we see her new husband talking and it is Myron's voice.

Like most Full Moon Features movies, this one has plenty of nudity and some decent gore FX. What makes this one stand out in my head is the acting from Ms Lovell. She has a great sense for comic timing. And I get the feeling that she hadn't have done a small amount of porn early on in her career she would have made the move from B movies to mainstream features. The DVD has a decent amount of extras. The two best are teh commentary, with the actor who played Myron doing it in character. And the promo for the never filmed sequel,Bride of the Head. Head of the Family gets a B.
