Documentary month Day 02 film 02 Jefftowne

Jefftowne
1998
Troma DVD

Jeff Towne is a 40 year old man with Down's Syndrome. He lives with his invalid mother. And he has three things he loves more than anything else. Beer,Porn and pro wrestling. This documentary was made by Daniel Kraus. Who worked at a movie theater that Jeff hung out at all the time. We get taken on a tour of Jeff's day to day life. Which is him mainly watching TV,3 Stooges shorts and pro wrestling being his favorite shows. Eating piles of food. Drinking a bunch of beer. And looking at cheap porn mags.

Jeff usually spends most of his day hanging around the cineplex in the local mall. He is there so much that the manager gave Jeff a uniform to wear. Jeff does help out some,by cleaning up the lobby and stuff like that. When he isn't hanging out at the theater he is busy getting drunk at the bar in the mall. Or getting porn magazines for free from a local gas station.

The documentary really shows that most of the people at the movie theater really care for Jeff and are worried about what will happen to him when his mother dies. Both Jeff and his Mom are in bad shape. It seems his mom hasn't left their home in over 20 years.

We also get to meet a few former and current theater employees that Jeff has had crushes on. Daniel even shows us a love note that Jeff wrote to one of the former employees. It is typed out in red ink and seems to be just Jeff copying the words written below the pictures in the various porn magazines he has.

One thing I love about the film is how through out the entire thing no one is ever trying to make fun of Jeff or take advantage of him in anyway. Matter of fact the theater owner gets Jeff started improving his life. He gets Jeff into a assisted living apartment. Gives Jeff a real job at the theater and by the end of the film it seems like Jeff is well on his way to being an independent adult.

Since this is a Troma DVD it is loaded with extras. We get 2 or 3 commentaries. One of which has Jeff on it. It is great listening to Jeff commentate on the film. Plus we also get a short sequel to Jefftowne. Where we find out that Jeff is doing great. He is living on his own and still working at the movie theater. Jefftowne gets a A-.
