SWA Promotions April 30th 2016 Richton Mississippi

Saw the above flyer maybe 2 weeks before the show. Wasn't sure if I could manage to get a ride. Then found out that the head of Bodyslam Media Productions was going. So I arranged a ride with him.

Got up early, for me,the day of the show.Woke up around 12pm. Was suppose to meet up around 3pm to make the 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive to Richton. So went town for breakfast. Stopped an grabbed some cheap drinks and snacks.

Well it was also around this time that a horrible storm hit. Heavy and thick rain, along with decent wind. It was a bit after 3pm when Koby picked me up. An it took right at 2 1/2 hours to get to Richton. Mostly cause the entire trip we were in the heavy rain.

After getting there and setting up the table,Joe Kane came over and asked if he could put some stuff he had for sale on the table. I saw he had a big stack of wrestling books. And got the below from Mr Kane for a great deal.
Yep Tim Hornbaker's book on the NWA.Been wanting to read this since it came out what 10 years ago.But kind of balked at paying the slightly high cover price for what is just an oversized paperback. Started reading it the night I got it. But haven't gotten very far into it.

I see that two other tables are set up  selling stuff. One of which I see a stack of DVDs and what I was pretty sure was  a WCW VHS. Go over start looking at the VHS and the lady tells me she has a bunch more VHS in a tub. After going thru the tub I ended up with 8 WCW VHS for once again a really good deal. 2 of them were compilations of Ric Flair. But the rest are PPVs.

Found out after the show they were all gotten years ago when Blockbuster was clearing out all their VHS.

The promoter came over and thanked us for coming down and filming. And also invited us to come to any show he holds. So YAY more wrestling to goto.Ok one quick warning. The same lady selling the VHS and DVDs,also had a bunch of pump activated Airhorns. Which sold out and the kids kept blasting them thru out the entire show.

After a playing of the National Anthem we get the openign match.

Old School Steve Starr vs Black Ranger

I had never seen Steve Starr wrestle before. And had never heard of Black Ranger. But both guys did a good job of getting the crowd hyped up and into the match and the show.

Lukas Frost vs Nate Moss was the second match. In a really good, for me it was match of the night, teacher vs student match. Notice how great Frost is at interacting with the crowd. Also I love the superkick from Lukas that almost took Nate's head off.

Mountain Man vs The Assassin was the third match. I had never seen either guy.

After a most welcome intermission,I needed something to drink and a small break from the airhorns,we got a triple threat match. It was advertised as Krimsynn Matthews vs Monty Warbucks vs Blade Beaudreax. But Blade had something come up and he wasn't able to make it. So in his place was Lukas Frost. This was the first time I saw Monty Warbucks in person, after having heard about him for years now. And I was pretty damn impressed. Krimsynn and Frost also impressed me in this match.

Main Event
Sassy Vegas and the Prince of Pain Joe Kane vs Calvin Rose and The Son of JYD Mike Carter. By the time this match was about to start my feet and knee was hurting from standing still for a few hours now. So I started to wander around behind the crowd filming. Ended up staying mostly behind this one family that was very very vocal in their hatred of Sassy and Joe.

Once the match was over most of the crowd cleared out. A decent amount of the wrestlers were out signing autographs and taking pictures with the fans. I headed back over to the table. Where Koby and I talked to Nate Moss for a long time. It was during this long talk that Koby remembered he had something for me. Something he got at Wrestlecon when he was there this year.
It is a May 1985 WCCW program. And it is signed by Bobby Fulton.
So we packed everything up. And got back on the road. The drive back was much quicker, since the rain had stopped. We got back to my town. Went to the Walmart I had parked my car at,then realized we hadn't ate anything in a long ass time. So off to Waffle House for a very late at night dinner. Then Koby headed off back home. I got home, unpacked my bag,got into bed and slept well.

Thanks to SWA Promotions and all the wrestlers and others for a really fun show. Gonna try my best to make it to the next show.

Powerslam Productions presents Wrestlefestivus 2 Nov 1st 2014 McComb Mississippi

This is the first PSP show I have been too since Spring Bash early this year. I think the annual Heritage Days show in Liberty was the last Powerslam show. This was a comeback show for Powerslam. This year they have run into some issues. Which has caused them to not run as many shows as normal. Then they had some roster changes. With one former Powerslam Productions guy,Bu Ku Dao aka Ling Pham, getting signed by the WWE a few months back. Congrats Bu Ku Dao. Can't wait to see you on Monday Night Raw one day.

Now I have been to 5 or 6 Powerslam shows at the Pike County Little Theater, but each time I rode with someone. My Aunt Midget was up visiting. So I borrowed her GPS. I had a few things to do in town before the show. 2 hours before the doors were suppose to open I started on my trip to McComb. Stopped at the truck stop to grab drinks. Go to plug the GPS into the cigarette lighter outlet. I head off on the interstate and see that every time I hit a bump the GPS shuts off. The way the molding is around the outlet was too small for the plug. So I said screw this and figured I would find my way. Worst case I get lost and call someone to come find me.

I get to McComb early. And find the place. I park about a block over and walk up. See Christina and her 2 kids parked right in front of the theater. They get out and we talk for awhile.I really enjoy how we have a group of fans that are at every show.

The doors open and we all head in. I had reserved my seat weeks earlier. I go to get my seat and I am at the end of the front row. Real near where everyone walks in. I notice Koby,Philip and Stephen and his boys coming in. So I walked over to talk to them.

Koby and I had asked permission to film matches.Reggie was nice and told us to film as much as we wanted too. I was talking to Koby and this other guy I see at every show, when Koby whips out a tripod. Which isn't going to work cause he is sitting third row. Plus it would have ended up blocking the view of the kids sitting behind him. So Philip and I talk Koby into just going handheld.  I also noticed that the last seat in that row was empty. So I decided to sit there.

It is 15 minutes to bell time. And they are testing out the speakers. Which sound bad. Then I get settled in my seat. Get out my trusty notebook. And made sure my camera had fresh batteries in it. Then Eddie Money hit the speakers.I of course mark out cause this means Shane Champagne is on his way to the ring. Shane comes out and is great. Seems Shane has a new wrestler in his stable.

Yep Mr Sockittoome is now managed by Shane. The announcer tells us that Princess Kristen isn't at the show. So I am wondering who Sock will face. As you can see if you watch the video Kristen comes out as Ultimate Warrior and we get a recreation of the Warrior vs Honky Tonk Man IC title match. Not sure if the pre-match stuff was an official Champagne Lounge. But is was very entertaining. With the crowd really letting Shane have it. What is funny is while recording the Sock vs Kristen match I didn't realize they were parodying the Warrior/HTM match. Later on that night as I was watching the footage while uploading it I realized what they were doing. This was the second best Kristen vs Sock match I have seen. With the one from the Picayune show being slightly better.

Match 02-Nate Moss vs James Veal.

I forgot to mention earlier that Powerslam has a new ref. Who looks like a young Bob Ross. Wait am I showing my age by mentioning Bob Ross? Anyway,I had never seen either guy wrestle before. I knew both of them are being trained in the Powerslam Powershack training school. Moss is the heel and plays it up. During intermission I learned that this was James 3rd or so match. And Moss has maybe 5 matches so far. I enjoyed this match.Moss is good at verbally interacting with the crowd. Where as Veal does more with his body language. The crowd was quickly behind Veal and got into giving Moss lots of hell. Moss works a more mat based style, and Veal is more high energy and high impact. We were getting a nice back and forth match when Lukas Frost ran in. He attacked Veal. Which causes Reggie Matthews to come out to help. The match is ruled a no contest. And Reggie, who is part of the Powerslam tag team titles asks James to be his new partner. And they challenge Frost and Moss to a title match later on in the show. Overall it was a good showing from two younger talent.

Match 3-The Punisher vs Blade Beaudreux

Blade I knew his name from various PWI 500s. The Punisher I saw at Powerslam'sWinter Warfare show earlier this year.Blade has a good look, with how popular shows like Duck Dynasty and all the cajun based reality shows,it helped the crowd connect with Blade. The Punisher reminds me of all the masked guys from my childhood. People like The Medics,The Galaxians and from the great Gulf Coast Championship Wrestlng The Wrestling Pro. The lady who was sitting behind me had me laughing so much with her various comments. That is one of the major reasons why when I record matches I don't do commentary. I want to capture the crowd noise. And the local crowds are great. Blade gets the win and we got intermission.

By this time my throat is sore from all the yelling. So after grabbing my bookbag I head to get a soda. After taking a sip of my cool refreshing beverage I go to see what they got for sale at the gimmick table. Reggie had told me there might be a new Powerslam dvd ready. There wasn't but I did see lots of kids grabbing Powerslam and WWE dvds. That is another thing I enjoy about Powerslam, they always have lots of stuff for sale at the gimmick table. And their prices are decent. I ended up getting two issues of Sports Review Wrestling from 1980 and one issue of The Wrestler from 1982.

Notice how both issues of Sports Review Wrestling have apartment wrestling plugs on the cover. I have flipped through each issue and both Sports Review Wrestling issues have multi-page articles on Apartment wrestling. As  a kid the non-Apter mags aways had huge ads for apartment wrestling. And I would never buy them because they seemed so sleazy. I have had a blast just flipping through these old issues. Once again Reggie forgot to pack a sharpie. But he knows I am always prepared. No I was never a boy scout. So I loaned out the 3 sharpies I had in my bag.

Match 04-Powerslam Heavyweight Champion Wes Adams with Princess Kristen vs Calvin Rose

This is a feud that has been going on all year. Back in January Wes won a battle royal which gave him a match against Calvin for the title. The next show,Spring Bash 2014,Wes won the title. Their feud has a nice teacher vs student feel. I am not sure but I think Calvin is one of the many deep south wrestlers that helped train Wes, Back in July Powerslam was suppose to have a show that was gonna be Wes;'s retirement show. So going into this match I had a feeling Wes might lose.Which he did. Turns out Koby and I both recorded this match,

That is my version. It isn't the best looking. First off I have hand tremors. So that causes it to be shaky sometimes. Secondly to have enough room to record more than one match I film in SD. Thirdly while the Pike County Little theater is a great place to watch wrestling, because of how dark it is it isn't the best place to film.

That is Koby's version. If you enjoy southern wrestling check out his youtube channel. Most Mondays he is uploading a new match.
Koby Rutland's youtube Channel BMPBLUE

After Calvin won both of us shut off our cameras. Which was a huge mistake. Calvin is celebrating in the ring, when a guy wearing jeans, boots a Hank III wifebeater and with a cheap Halloween mask taped to his head crawled out from under the ring. Gets in the ring takes his boot off and attacks all the heels. I was standing there wondering who it was. The Hank III shirt should have been a big clue. The masked man takes off the mask and it is THE PRINCE OF PAIN JOE KANE!! As far as I know the last time Joe worked for Powerslam was the 2013 Heritage Days show. From what all us fans had heard we thought that Joe would never be back in Powerslam. So him appearing was a total surprise to everyone. The crowd went nuts. With lots of Welcome back and Thank you Joe chants going on.After chasing all the heels out of the ring Joe turned to Wes and since people say a picture is worth 1000 words here is a picture.

This is the first time I ever saw Joe work as a good guy. And I hope this means we are going to get a nice long feud between Joe and Calvin Rose over the title.

Match 06-Powerslam Productions Tag Team Champions Reggie Krimsynn Matthews/James Veal vs Lukas Frost/Nate Moss

I love the story behind this match. You get two long time Mississippi independent wrestling vets,Reggie and Lukas, teaming up with some rookies.Reggie is part of Big Ramp Enterprises.Big Ramp is a New Orleans DJ. Who also works for lots of wrestling feds in MS and LA as a manager. As you can see in the above video Ramp is awesome. The part where he is conducting the crowd in their chants is in my top 10 favorite things I have seen at a wrestling show.Reggie and James win. It was obvious to me that the crowd, who I doubt most of them had ever seen James Veal before, really like him.As you can hear on the videos of both his matches the crowd was solidly behind him. Reggie as always brings it. Reggie has this natural charisma about him. And it isn't just something he turns on for the shows. Reggie is just a naturally nice and great guy. I do wonder if Moss is Luka's new tag team partner or if by the next show Frostie will be back teaming with his long time companion Kool Jay Steele. Also I want to quickly congratulate Jay on his,as of this writing, upcoming marriage.

After the show was over as always at Powerslam shows at the Little Theater, the faces came out and interacted with the crowd. Saw lots of kids getting their pictures with the various guys. And again Reggie borrowed my sharpie. A few of us were invited to go eat after the show with the guys. So Koby,Philip,Big Ramp and I sat out in the lobby talking. And being very entertained by this one young man. I can't remember his name, but his mother was working the concession stand.Lots of jokes were told, and since there was a kid present they were all clean. And once again, like what seems to happen anytime a group of us is around, the cockupine story got told. If you want to know the full story catch one of us at a show.

Once the ring was torn down and the theater had been cleaned we all headed off to Waffle House.Got to sit and bullshit with Reggie and the guys for awhile.Had an encounter with a very drunk guy while I was waiting in line to pay my ticket. Then I got back in the Newt-mobile and made the short drive back home.

Honestly when the show started and I saw that the speakers were not working right. The mic wasn't working and we had a new announcer and ref I was thinking this might end up being the first bad Powerslam show I have been too. But thankfully I was wrong. Shane Champagne was ultra entertaining. The first match was a cute comedy match and the crowd seemed to love it.The second match I really enjoyed. It was neat to see two guys who are so early in their careers. Getting to see how they react to a crowd was enlightening. Calvin vs Wes was great and the main event tag team match was a great way to end the show and send the people home happy. But the return of Joe Kane was the highlight of the show for me.As you can see between Koby and I all the matches were recorded.Hell the entire show, besides Joe returning was recorded. But once Powerslam releases a dvd of this show I am buying one. First off to help support a great company. Secondly because I like to own copies of every wrestling show I have been too. Speaking of that, and I know this is a longshot, but if anyone reading this has or knows where to get vhs or dvd of any of Tiny Fraizer's short lived revival of GCCW or the Last Rites Championship Wrestling show from Brookhaven in August of 2012 let me know. Once again I want to thank all the wrestlers, ref and other talent from Powerslam for a fun show. Thank you to the Pike County Little Theater for letting Powerslam bring us another fun evening of deep south wrestling. And  final huge thank you to Christina and her two kids,Stephen and his two sons,Koby,Philip and Tony for being the best group of fans I have met.

Powerslam Productions Winter Warfare 01/18/2014

Powerslam Productions Winter Warfare 01/18/2014

Friday night Reggie had asked if Dragon and I could be at the show around 6pm. Around 4pm Dragon arrived at my home.

I jokingly asked him where he got the BJ and the Bear hat from. But since he is young he had no idea what I was talking about. We left 30 minutes later. And made it to the Pike County Little Theater around 5:30pm. The doors were not open so we ran to a general store to grab snacks and a drink.

By the time we got back doors were open. We head in grab out tickets and see Reggie has 3 front row seats waiting on us. There was already a big crowd.About 10 minutes before the show started Damien showed up.

Brent came out to get the show started. He is now the commissioner of Powerslam.

Match 1-Princess Kristen Morel vs Mr. Sakitume

Kristen was out first and cut a nice promo.

Mr Sakitume came out. And we started heckling him. I asked him why he stole Blue Panther's mask.

What I loved is there was so much matwork in this match. I know Kristen hasn't been wrestling very long. But she was great. She made her way to the top rope.

Then came off it and locked Mr Sakitume in a sleeperhold.

Finally after a hard fought match Princess Kristen won.

Match 2-Outlaw Matt Lancie with Big Ramp vs Wildcard J.Spade

This was Wildcard's first match in Powerslam.

I love that Perry,Luke Hawx's son,is a ref now. Wildcard put up a great fight. But he couldn't overcome the team of Big Ramp and Lancie. I was damn impressed with Wildcard. And he had the crowd behind him the entire match. As always Lancie was great. He has this intense stiff style that so reminds me of old southern style heels.

Lancie got the win.

Match 3-Socorro vs Danny Flamingo

Socorro is the former Sgt Socorro. He is now out of the army. And has changed his look. He now has a mowhawk like Juice from Sons of Anarchy. Danny is new. But looked so much like Danny Doring of ECW fame. He came out first. And was handing Brett his sunglasses.I yelled out "Hey did you get those gas station glasses at Citco?" And he quickly replied with "Nope Exxon!" Which got a good laugh out of me.

Socorro was his normal great self. Lots of matwork and chain wrestling. And Flamingo impressed me.
Socorro got dumped out of the ring and landed right at our feet.

After a fun back and forth match Socorro won.

Match 4-PSP Tag champs Reggie Matthews/Wes Adams AKA the Alumni with manager Princess Kristen vs Lukas Frost/Kool Jay Steele AKA The Future Foundation with manager Hardbody Harper.

I was happy to see Lukas back in the ring. He had to take a bunch of time off last year because of an injury. Plus it is always fun to heckle Hardbody.

For the first half of the match Frost and Steele keep Reggie cut off from his corner. And beat him down again and again. Then finally Reggie made it to his corner. Made the hot tag and Wes hit the ring and cleaned it out.

The rest of the match was back and forth. Full of some great action. Then current PSP Heavyweight Champion Calvin Rose hit the ring and his interference caused The Alumni to lose their titles. Rose,Frost,Steele and Harper then laid out Wes,Reggie and Kristen.

After the match intermission started. After a quick trip to the bathroom we stood around talking to various people we see at every show.

Match 5-Luke Hawx vs Purple Haze

I was wondering if this would be face vs face. Because Luke is a face in PSP and Purple Haze usually is.

Purple Haze was out first and the crowd seemed to like him.

Luke was out next and the crowd went nuts. Both guys shook hands and the match started. Now normally Purple Haze is a high flying guy. But this match was loaded with lots of matwork.

With Luke doing a ankle lock. Which Purple Haze broke out of.

Then Haze got Luke in a modified surfboard. The crowd started dueling chants for both guys. And Luke got the win. After the match they shook hands again. Always great to see displays of sportsmanship like that.

Match 6-Bu Ku Dao vs PSP Heavyweight Champ Calvin Rose

Rose was out first with his manager Harper. So of course I start heckling Harper. I think I caught him laughing two times at things I yelled at him.

Bu Ku Dao was out next and the crowd was so solidly behind him. It was nice to see him getting a title shot. He is a great wrestler and I have never seen a bad match from him.I also noticed that him and I have the same haircut.Just he wears his hair up and I keep mine down.

The bell rings and quickly Bu Ku Dao was on the attack. Lots of kicks to Rose's knee. Then he backed Rose into the ropes and hit him with a flurry of punches. But it wasn't enough to take Rose off his feet. Rose grabbed Dao and started beating the crap out of him.

Dao tried his best. But he couldn't manage to overcome the size and power advantage Rose has.

After the match it looked like Dao had been knocked silly. I was very impressed with how close he came to winning. I wouldn't be surprised if Dao ends up as the PSP Champ one day soon.

Match 7-Battle Royale

Brett explained the rules. 2 people will start in the ring. Then after 2 minutes the next person enters. After that every 90 seconds someone comes in until there is only one person left. The winner gets a shot at the PSP title at the next show. Now it is hard as hell to review a battle royale. And between me taking pictures and writing down who had entered and who got eliminated I am sure I missed parts. So I will just list who entered in what order and after their name what number they got eliminated at.
1.Lukas Frost-18

2.Buku Dao-1

3.Wes Adams
4.Aeon Flexx-5
5.Danny Flamingo-2
6.Reggie Matthews-13
7.Outlaw Matt Lancie-4
8.Luke Hawx-3
9.The Punisher-8
10.Kool Jay Steele-17
11.Mr Sakitumie-6
12.Benjamin Todd-9
13.Senior ref Skippy-7
14.Socorro-12
15.Shane Champagne-10

16.Purple Haze-11
17.Hardbody Harper-15
18.Wildcard J.Spade-14
19.Princess Kristen-16

The highlights were

Skippy being announced as being in the Battle Royale. He was the ref on our side of the ring. And got footage of Skippy's impressive wrestling debut.

Also Luke and Lancie got thrown over the top at the same time and ended up brawling right in front of us.

Reggie getting thrown out and landing right on top of my feet. The last two in the ring were Wes and Lukas. With both of them fighting on the apron. Wes eliminated Lukas. Then Calvin Rose hit the ring and Rose,Harper and the Future Foundation started beating down Wes. Reggie ran out to save Wes and got beat down. Kristen came out to help and got beat down. Calvin grabbed some scissors and cut so of Wes' hair. I yelled at Harper "Hey take the hair and make a toupee with it!" Harper then grabbed some of the hair and put it on his head.

The locker room emptied and chased the heels out. Wes grabbed the mic and cut a great promo.

"ROSE YOU CUT MY HAIR TONIGHT BUT COME MARCH IN LIBERTY MISSISSIPPI I AM GOING TO CUT THAT BELT FROM AROUND YOUR WAIST!"

The crowd seemed really hyped for the next show.

After the show Dragon and I hung out talking to Reggie and other people. Then headed out to Waffle house to eat. Where we had so much fun just bullshitting with Reggie and others.

Now I have been to 5 Powerslam shows so far and this one was the best I have seen.As always the wrestlers and other talent was super nice. And you can tell each of them did their best. So if you live anywhere Liberty MS on March 1st is Powerslam Productions Spring Bash show. Come check it out. Trust me on this it will be more than worth the 10 bucks the ticket cost.

Top 5 Indy wrestlers you should know about

By indy I mean anyone who currently isn't under contract to WWE,TNA or ROH. Also I have had to have seen each person on my list at least 3 times.

TIE

5.Purple Haze Davey Hendrix

The first time I saw Davey was at Powerslam Productions Spring Bash show. Davey took on Lukas Frost. And it was a great match up. Both guys are high flyers. Since then I have seen Davey 4 more times and each time he gets better. It also helps that he is a super nice guy.

5.Max Maverick

I discovered Max Maverick at the first show Last Rites Championship Wrestling had. He was part of a 3 way match for the Last Rites Hardcore title. Before the match started Max grabbed the mic and cut a great heel promo. As you can see in the above picture he won. Since then I have looked up Max on youtube and saw that not only can he do high flying moves he is also a good chain wrestler. Plus he is damn good on the mic. What shocked me is that when I first saw him he hadn't been wrestling that long.

5.Cale Conners

Cale is another good wrestler I first saw at the Last Rites show in town. When he walked through the curtain he got my attention. He has this presence about him. At the show he came out wearing this really neat metallic skull mask with light up eyes. Well since he was the heel I started heckling him. Calling him fat. He turns and looks at me and said "Like I haven't heard that before. Come on try to come up with something original." I quickly said "Well you look like Kane and Playboy Buddy Rose had a kid!" Cale didn't miss a beat and replied with "Hey look everyone we got ourselves a  smart mark!" Then the match started and I was majorly impressed with Cale's ringwork. He is a tall and fairly big guy. But moves like someone half his size. After the show I was heading to the bathroom. Saw him coming down the hall and thanked him for the smart mark comment. Since that night I have watched a bunch of his matches on Youtube. And like Max,Cale is a guy that is good in the ring and good on the mic.

4.Reggie Krimsyn Matthews

I had been talking to Reggie on Facebook for at least 2 months before I even met him. Last December on the 15th I went to my first Powerslam show. About a week before the show I had sent Reggie a message on Facebook asking if he could hold two front row seats for me. I get to the show and there was two seats with my name on them. That night I got to see Reggie face Calvin Rose. And the match was so much fun. You could tell that Reggie really enjoys being in the ring. One thing Reggie has is he not only has great charisma but he has that "It" factor. Since then I have seen Reggie wrestle many times. My favorite match of his is from last years Slamfest. Reggie faced Joe Kane. And the crowd was so hot. Back in August I asked Reggie if he would come on my podcast and do an interview. He came on and it was so much fun. We recorded for over 3 hours. Reggie Krimsyn Matthews Interview on Asshat Podcast. Reggie is also one of the nicest guys I have met in this area.

4.Sgt Sorroco

Sgt is another guy who I first saw at my first Powerslam show. After the show I was talking to him and found out he was in the Army. We talked for a bit about Army related stuff. Sgt is one of those wrestlers that can do a little bit of everything. At Wildkat Sports "Schools Out" show on June 8th of this year Sgt had a match against Outlaw Matt Lancie. And it turned into a old school southern style locker room clearing brawl. With Sgt taking a shot to the nose and bleeding all over the floor. Now that match was really good, but the best match I have seen from Sgt was at the next Wildkat show. On August 24th at the Wildkat Sports "Hawx vs Hardy" show Sgt and the Outlaw had a feud ending bullrope match. And to add something extra to the match it was for the Wildkat Revolution title. This match turned out to be even more brutal than their last match. After it was over, sadly Sgt lost, the entire crowd was on their feet clapping.

4.The Outlaw Matt Lancie

Lancie, who I am pretty sure is the current Wildkat Revolution champion, reminds me so much of Stan Hansen. He is a great example of someone who has taken the old southern brawling style and updated it. Living in the deep south it is a great showing of how much talent Matt has when he can work a cowboyish gimmick and still get the crowd to boo him. Everyone of his moves looks super stiff. And that is another thing that makes him stand out to me. Then there is how he carries himself before the match,it is hard to describe. But he has this kind of hunched over walk and stance. Then he has a way at staring at people that just is so damn creepy.

4.Bolt Brady

The first time I saw Bolt was at the first Wildkat show I went to. The match was Bolt Brady vs Bestia 666. I went to that show just to see Bestia 666. Thinking how many chances would I get to see a legit luchadore. I had heard of Bolt before that match, but never seen him. Holy fuck those two guys put on a fast paced action packed match. From when the bell rung till Bolt got the pinfall neither guy slowed down. That night when I got home I searched for Bolt Brady on Youtube. And found out he works a lot for ACW out of Texas. I saw a fun tag match with him and ACH vs two guys who I can't remember. Then this past August Wildkat had a rematch between Bolt and Bestia 666. And once again both guy gave it their all. This time with Bestia winning. After the match it was strongly hinted that we will get a 3rd match between the two and I can't wait. Bolt has great charisma. Then you add in his energy packed high flying style I could see him one day working for ROH,TNA or WWE.

TIE

3.Bu Ku Dao AKA Ling Pham

Standing at barely over 5 foot,Bu Ku Dao impressed me the first time I saw him. It was Powerslam Productions December Double shot part 1 in 2012. And Bu Ku Dao,who goes by Ling Pham in Powerslam, was facing Lukas Frost. With both guys working a high flying style I got to see a super fun match. Bu Ku Dao really reminds me of Rey Jr before his knees went to shit. The stand out match for me has to be when Bu Ku Dao took on Chris Masters at the first Wildkat show I went too. Now Masters is over a foot taller than Dao. And has to have at least 100lbs on him. But Dao fought back and tried his best, before finally getting caught in the Masterlock and passing out. What I didn't know at the time was Dao and Stud Matthews were in the middle of what ended up being a year long feud.  At the August Wildkat show they had the final match in the feud. I was shocked when Dao locked Matthews in a crossface and getting a submission win. Dao is another guy who each time I see him he gets better.

3.Curt "The Stud" Matthews

At the PSP December Double Shot part 1 I got to see Stud Matthews. Turns out this was the first time he used his new gimmick. He comes out to Eye of the tiger. And it is a Hulk Hogan tribute style. Curt is good in the ring. But it is the little things he does that makes him stand out. Like how after each match he goes out in the crowd and thumb wrestles with the kids. Or how he has all the Hogan moves down. And all the Hogan mannerisms. Then you factor in that while he is a face in Powerslam, down in Wildkat he is a heel. In Wildkat he does a arrogant weightlifter gimmick. If you look up Wildkat Sports on Youtube you can see some great Curt "The Stud" Matthews promos. Plus there is lots of his matches on Youtube. As for my favorite match of his it is a tie. One of them is the feud ending match against Bu Ku Dao that I mentioned above. The other is from the Powerslam Spring Bash show. The final match of the night was a battle royale. Which Curt won. Curt is another guy that just oozes charisma. At the Powerslam Productions Slamfest show in Liberty most of the crowd had no idea who he was. But by the time he had walked through the crowd and entered the ring he had already gotten the crowd to cheer him.

2.Bestia 666

The son of luca libre legend Damien 666,Bestia is as talented as his father. I first heard of him when he was having matches in the Extreme Rising show. Then after the Powerslam Productions Spring Bash show was over Luke Hawx told me that at the next Wildkat show Bestia was going to be coming in. Luke had remembered how much I love lucha libre. So I talked my buddy Collin into driving us down. And that show Bestia faced Bolt Brady in what was to me the match of the night. Then at the August show Bestia came back to have a rematch with Bolt. Bestia tried his best to get the crowd to boo him. Even going so far as to yell "Viva la Mexico". But it didn't work the crowd loves him. Since then I have watched many of his matches on youtube. What I enjoy about Bestia is 2 main things. I have been told that behind the scenes he is a super nice super humble guy. The other thing is unlike some other luchadores that have trouble adapting to the American style of wrestling,Bestia doesn't have that issue.

2.Lukas Frost

Lukas is one of the most well rounded wrestlers on the southern indy circuit. Not only is he good in the ring and on the mic. He also knows the little things that can make a difference. Like the cloak he has on in the above picture. It just helps add to his character. I have seen him live 4 times now. Now Lukas works a high flyer style. But unlike some indy high flyers Lukas know how and when to sell. For 3 years Lukas, who is known as Frostie, wrote a great blog.Lukas Frost's blog . Where he not only told lots of great behind the scenes stories. But gave piles of great advice. Now my memory isn't the best but I kind of remember Lukas telling me one time that he has thought about taking the blog posts and making a book out of it. If this happens I will buy it. Now while Lukas is a huge heel in the ring, outside it he is such a nice guy. The many times we have talked Lukas has told me how much he enjoys reading my posts here at the blog about the indy shows I go to. It is feedback like that that keeps me writing.

1.Joe Kane the Prince of Pain

Joe has been around the southern indy scene for years now. And it shows when he is in the ring. He know how to pace a match, how to get the crowd to react the way he wants them too. Perfect example,at the Powerslam Slamfest show. Joe came out to the ring and without saying a word got the entire crowd booing him before the match even started. And his is one of the best sellers around this area. And like everyone else on this list Joe has always been so nice when I have talked to him. If you want to see what a southern style heel should be just Youtube Joe Kane. He has plenty of matches up on Youtube. From the ones  I have seen Joe can have a good match with anyone. I bet if you put me in the ring with him,it would end up being good match. And I have not athletic skills at all.

1.Wes Adams

Besides Bestia 666,Wes is most likely the most well known guy on this list. He has been around for years now wrestling. Working in Memphis as one of the Lifeguards. Then having a stint in NWA Wildside. From there he moved on to the WWE developmental territory Deep South Wrestling. And when DSW shut down Wes was sent to FCW. He ended up becoming a ref. And was used a lot on WWE's version of ECW. Once his contract was up and not renewed Wes came back to Mississippi and started up Powerslam Productions. In many ways Wes reminds me of Mid South/UWF era Terry Taylor. At the June Wildkat show Wes had a match against Rudy Russo. A few minutes into the match Rudy injured Wes' leg and the rest of the match was built around Rudy trying to work Wes' leg and Wes trying to protect it. One thing that I doubt many people know is that Wes is really good at cutting promos. I have seen him cut a few live and he has a way of getting the  crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. Another thing is there are some wrestlers that might be good at singles matches but if you put them in a tag team it doesn't work. Not Wes. I have seen him work singles and tag matches and he is good in both.
