Honey I Shrunk the Kids DVD

TITLE-Honey I shrunk the Kids
SOURCE-Disne DVD

By the time this was out in 1989 I was rarely seeing any Disney film. But sometime in 1990 my mother was home for the weekend. Wanted to rent a movie. So up to Homeport Video I went got this and something else. Watched the movie, enjoyed it and never saw it again.

Sure I watched the TV based on the film, but not until it was on THE HUB all the time. Never saw the sequels and really had forgotten most of this first film. Then weeks ago at a thrift found it cheap.

Mom was wanting something to watch after dinner. I knew I had this so put it one. Ok why was Disney release movies in 4:3 format on DVD?

Rick Moranis is a inventor.  Working on a shrink ray. It accidently gets triggered. Shrinks his two kids plus the sons of the next door neighbors, who are played by Matt Frewer and the lady that was Buffy's mom on Buffy the Vampire slayer tv show.

The kids get sucked up by a dust buster and then put in the trash. Ending up in the far back part of the backyard. Most of the film is the 4 kids traveling the back yard. With some great action parts. Like when the son of Rick and the neighbor's oldest son end up riding a bee. The fight between the ant the kids train and a scorpion is also well done. Then you get that bit near the end with the lawnmower. Of course being a Disney film you know the kids survive and get made normal size at the end.

The FX work surprised me in how well it hold up. Lots of this was done on sets with oversized props so looks amazing. The green screen stuff doesn't look as good. While still not looking like total crap.

No extras on the disc. Wasn't expecting any when I saw it was 4:3. The audio is clear. The picture looks crisp.

Lilo & Stitch Ohana TPB From Dynamite

TITLE-Lilo&Stitch Ohana

SOURCE-Dynamite TPB

Now before this I had read some Stitch Manga and it was good. Found this TPB cheap took a chance. And like with most comics it sat around for a bit before I read it.

In it is the first 5 or so issues of Dynamite's Lilo&Stitch comic. Set it appears not long after the first film. A group of robots wants to get Stitch's dna to make them more like him.

In issue one we see Lilo and her sister plus their extended family getting use to the change. Stitch learns that being part of a family means you are responsible for stuff. After the robots attack Stitch flees.  With each issue being another adventure in a new place. While Lilo and crew try to figure out where Stitch is.

Got an issue set at a NYC convention. Stitch ends up helping sell some ugly koala plushies. Got another with Stitch in the outback of Australia. Where he learns about how the land and rocks have a history to be preserved.

Then the last issue wraps it all up. This time Stitch and the two robots sent after him help some kids make a monster movie.

Great art good writing and the only real complaint I have is it read super fast. 5 issues read in under 30 minutes.

WEHT Super Goof

Super Goof, not sure when I first saw a Super Goof comic. Betting it was mid to late 70s. But after I read one I was hooked. Already loved Goofy as a kid and making him a comedic super hero made this one of my favorite comics.

But what is Super Goof? It is a comic in which all your favorite Disney characters live in the same city. Goofy eats these super powered peanuts, that he calls GOOBERS,and he gains pretty much all the powers of Superman. These powers don't last that long. And Super Goof's costume is just a pair of red pajamas and a towel around his neck. So it looks like a superhero outfit some kid would come up with.

In the issue pictured above, which is Super Goof's only Dynabrite issue ,there is two stories. First is the one on the cover. Where Super Thief starts stealing various landmarks and buildings. Super Goof manages to bring back Big Ben and other things. But when the city bridge disappears he has no idea what to do.

Thankfully Hewey Dewey and Louie appear and help Super Goof figure out what to do. Always loved the Junior Woodchucks. And can't forget how in this series Clarabell Cow is Goofy's girlfriend.

The second story has Super Goof and Mickey Mouse facing off against the Beagle Boys. Yep Disney most major character is a side kick to Goofy in this story.

When I got this comics I was wondering why now with superheroes being so big why hasn't Disney did anything with Super Goof since the comic ended in the early 80s?

Well turns out I was partially wrong. Sometime in the 2000s on the House of Mouse cartoon in one episode Super Goof appears. But outside of that since the comic ended it is like Disney forgot about Super Goof or is embarassed by it.

Imagine if in the next Avengers movie if Super Goof flies in to save the day. Or how about in the next Guardians of the Galaxy,we have Super Goof hopped up on Goobers, rushing in to rescue Gamorra.

From what I can find the Whitman Super Goof comics never got reprinted or put out in a trade paperback. And even back when they were coming out non of my friends read Super Goof.

Now look at that cover closely. This comic is from 1973. But see that cover price of 69 cents. Back in 73 average color comic was 25 cents IIRC. So why is this one almost 3 times more? That is cause of Dynabrite.

Ok smartass what is Dynabrite? It was a short lived attempt by Whitman to put out comics on much better paper. The paper looks feels and smells like Baxter paper. Which if you don't know is a really white paper that makes the colors pop. By the  mid 80s DC and Marvel put out a pile of comics on Baxter paper. And they would cost $1.25 when your normal comic on newsprint was 55 to 65 cents. From what I can find only 9 Dynabrite comics came out. Most of them being Uncle Scrooge or Donald Duck stuff. This is the only Dynabrite Super Goof comic.

Hey Disney superheroes are hotter now than they have been in the almost 50 years I have been alive. Why not make a Super Goof cartoon tv show or movie? If yall can bring back the Three Cabarellos, which was a great cartoon go watch it,why not at least give Super Goof a DTV movie.

Disney Frozen Issue 2

TITLE-Disney Frozen Issue 2

PUBLISHER-Peachtree Playthings

It was last year in the early spring that I discovered Disney had a line of 4 monthly comics. These comics were exculsive to the Dollar Tree chain of stores. Cost a buck an issue and have 22 pages of story.

This second issue of the Frozen title contains 2 stories. "Just When You Weren't Looking" and "Travel Arendelle"Both stories are credited to Georgia Ball on the writing side and a combination of Benedettta Barone/Michela Cacciatore/Grafimated on the art side.

Heads up I have so far managed to not see either of the Frozen films. Not really avoiding them just haven't seen them.

The first story has two brothers who are cooks and feuding. So Elsa talks to the rest of the village to get the feud to stop. Nothing amazing storywise but the art and colors looks really nice.

Elsa,Anna and Olaf got camping and hiking in the second story. But a avalanche takes out their canoe and tent. So the three have to survive and make their way back home. This story was a bit better than the first one. And has the same nice art and coloring.

Now sure I'm not the target audience for this title. And even with that I still feel like I got my buck's worth of entertainement out of this title.

31 Days of Horror Day 03 Disney's Tower of Terror

Title-Disney's Tower of Terror
Source-Disney DVD

Found this last year in October. Had never heard of it,but by looking at the back seems the film was made to promote the Tower of Terror ride at Disneyworld.

With the film having Steve Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst in the cast I figured I would get a average or slightly above average horror movie for tween and kids. Nope,I instead got a boring film. A film so boring it has taken me 4 times to get the entire movie watched.

Guttenberg is a reporter who finds out about supposedly haunted elevator and goes to check it out with his niece Dunst. The plot is as bland and boring as it sounds. Guttenberg is horrible as the lead and Dunst isn't much better.

2016 Comic Challenge 074 Walt Disney's Super Goof #35

TITLE-Walt Disney's Super Goof #35
PUBLISHER-Whitman

I mentioned in the last review my childhood love of Whitman comics. They had the Disney license for years. And besides doing comics of the various starts of the Disney cartoons, they also created new characters for the comics. With the most famous being of course Uncle Scrooge. Who I love. But as a kid one of my favorites was Super Goof.

Super Goof is Goofy's superheroic alter-ego. He eats these super peanuts and gains basically the standard superhero powers of flight, super strength and invulnerability.

In this issue we get two stories. The first deals with Super Goof taking on a super powered parrot. As shown on the cover. The second one has Super Goof facing The Beagle Boys. I seem to remember him fighting the Beagle Boys fairly often in his comic.

Sadly since the final issue of Super Goof, number 74,came out sometime in 1984 Super Goof has pretty much disappeared. I would love to have seen him maybe say show up on Duck Tales or Darkwing Duck. Or hell now with superhero movies being fairly popular do a Super Goof cartoon to air before one of the new Marvel comic films.

3 toys from the Junk Box 05/25/2015

Sorry it has been a bit since I  have done one of these. I was wanting to wait until I got 3 toys in. But looks like that will be at least a few more weeks. So since I can't sleep I wrote the following.

Got this Oliver Queen Green Arrow in a three pack. Along with Hal Jordan Green Lantern and Black Canary.I have always preferred the Mike Grell Arrow costume. Which is one reason why I wanted this figure. The bow he comes with looks really good. And the paint job is well done. The articulation is pretty good. Plus I couldn't pass up 3 figures for $8 IIRC.Just a few years ago most people that saw this figure had no idea who he was. Hell most of them thought he was Robin Hood. Now thanks to the CW hit Arrow people do seem to know who he is. Even if he looks nothing like the Arrow on the show.
A few years back I went to this great thrift store with my cousin. She was looking for cheap work clothes for her husband. I of course looked thru the books and then toys. Found a bag of random Happy Meal toys. I saw this figure and a stuffed Triple H toy. With the bag priced at 50 cents I grabbed it.I first saw the Disney animated film Robin Hood when I was 4. And it became my favorite Disney movie. Because my father is a bowhunter,I have always liked heroes that use bows. The paint on this is a bit scuffed up.Only articulation is his shoulders and neck. I love how they made his tail out of fur.
I got lucky and found this WWE Super Strikers Slam and Launch ring at Dirt Cheap. Normally this ring is 40 to 50 bucks. But thanks to Dirt Cheap I got it for around $8.The two corners with the silver posts are launch pads. You put your figure in front of the post. Slam your fist down on the silver button and they are launched way up in the air. The shit above the ring has a chair on it. If you hit the WWE symbol the chair is dropped into the ring. I do like how the shit above the ring can be removed easily. Now I just need to get some wrestling figures the right size for this ring.
As always no idea when the next of these will appear. But I hope yall enjoyed another post about toys from the junk box.
