31 Days of Horror 2022 Day 17 Teenage Caveman

TITLE-Teenage Caveman (2002 Remake)

SOURCE-Sony DVD

I had pretty much forgotten about this remake. Even though I bought it on VHS back in 2003. But that VHS,an ex-rental copy from Hollywood Video, got ate by a vcr close to 12 years ago. I was looking for something to watch on Youtube. Saw a video titled "The forgotten Larry Clark Horror/Sci Fi movie" and was like "Oh yea I need to find a copy of that film." Went to Amazon and bought one of the last new copies of the DVD they had.

Back in 2002 Cinemax had a pile of old AIP movies remade to premiere on their Saturday night feature. This is like what Showtime did with their Rebel Highway series in 1994,but instead of JD films Cinemax got Sci Fi or Horror films. This series of remakes was dubbed the Creature Features series. Over the 20 years since they originally aired I have managed to see all of them. Pretty sure a few years ago I covered the remake of How to Make a Monster.

Teenage Caveman, like most of the films in the Creature Features run,is a remake in title and basic premise only. IIRC in the original Teenage Caveman you don't learn that the film is set in a apocolyptic future until near the end of the film. In this remake fairly early on you learn this.

What really surprises me is how this film is forgotten. As I already mentioned it is directed by Larry Clark. Yea the infamous director of Kids,Bully and Ken Park. And well if you know Larry Clark you know that means this film will be packed with nudity and sleaze.

Andrew Keegan  is the son of the cave tribe's leader. His father rapes Keegan's girlfriend. Keegan kills his father and he is banished from the tribe. So Andrew and a few of his friends stumble on a large city.

They all pass out and when they wake up they are in a solar powered apartment. Where Judith,Tiffany Limos, and Vincent,Stephen Jasso, live.

Judith and Vincent introduce out teenage cavepeople to excesses of sex and drug and rock n roll. Which leads us to a scene that surprised me, Vincent uses this apartments amazing stereo to play Misfits-Where Eagles Dare. I didn't expect to hear a classic Misfits song when I put this film into my VCR 19 years ago.

Quickly we find out that Judith and Vincent infect  anyone they have sex with . This virus kills whoever has it in a fast and explosive way. Also Vincent and Judith heal from any wound super fast.

By the end it is Andrew Keegan vs Judith and Vincent. And SPOILERS Keegan wins but at what cost?

Yea the film is loaded with nudity, sleaze and has that greasy feel that every Larry Clark has. What surprises me is not only that this Creature Features series of films are forgotten, which is odd cause most of them are in many horror multipack dvd sets, but this is the Larry Clark film that no one seems to remember. Even people that haven't seen his better known films know who Larry Clark is. But this film, nope forgotten.

31 Days of Horror 2021 Day 23 Sorority Row

TITLE-Sorority Row
SOURCE-Summit Entertainment DVD

I remember hearing in 2008 that a remake of House on Sorority Row was being remade. Not being much of a fan of the original, and sadly how in 2009 when this remake was released the habit of horror films being cut to PG 13 for theatrical release, and getting an UNCUT/R Rated cut release on DVD,I skipped this movie. In the over 10 years since the film came out I rarely heard anyone ever say they saw it. I just assumed it was another of the many remakes that came out and was not worth even renting.

Skip ahead to last summer. One of the local pawn shops had an overstock of DVDs/Blu Rays. I walked in and the owner let me know that if I bought at least 20 dvds they were 2 for a buck. I dug thru the shelves and bins and found 17 DVDs I wanted. So started looking for 3 more to get to the magical number of 20. Saw Sorority Row and took a chance on it.

And like lots of films I buy the DVD got put into a box and forgotten about. Then I found the box a week ago. Was digging in it,mostly trying to find a dvd to watch while I sat out on my pier doing a bit of video editing work. Figured I would put the film on and halfway listen to it. So I was surprised when 10 minutes into the film I was hooked and gave it my full attention.

A sorority sister gets 5 of her fellow members to help her pull a prank on her boyfriend and one of the sister's brothers. They convince the guys that one of the sisters is dead. They load the "body" up into a van and are planning on driving out to the middle of nowhere and throw the body into a lake.

When they get to the body of water someone mentions how they gotta get the last of the air out of the dead body's lungs so it won't float to the top of the lake.  So the brother grabs a tire iron and stabs the "dead body" thru the chest. Which of course actually kills her.  The sorority sisters and the two guys dispose of the body and swear to never talk about this.

A year later the sisters start to get odd texts. Yep this is another variant on I Know What You Did Last Summer. I saw this and was thinking that I was gonna not enjoy this film. But I was shocked cause the cast and the FX work kept my attention.

So the cast....of the 6 main females in the film I knew who 4 of them were. You had Greg Evigan;s daughter Briana as Cassidy. Rumer Willis as nerdy sorority sister Ellie.Jamie Chung as the airhead Clarie. And finally the one that it took me most of the film to realize why I thought she looked familiar. Margo Harshman plays Chugs. It is Chug's brother that kills the "Dead" sister. And Margo I knew from being one the main cast on the Disney Channel sitcom Even Stevens. Plus who can forget the late Carrie Fisher as the house mother. Carrie is great in this part and really appears to being having a blast in the role.

The kills are all pretty well done. The best being Chug's death. Where she has a bottle of wine shoved down her throat and chokes on the liquid. I was really surprised at how graphic and gory the deaths are. Sorority Row is a throwback to the 80s slashers. In that we get piles of gory deaths and a decent amount of nudity.

So if you haven't seen the movie and it is streaming/airing on a service you have. Or you find it on home media for 5 bucks or less, give Sorority Row a watch.

31 Days of Horror 2020 Day 23 Child's Play 2019

TITLE-Child's Play 2019

SOURCE-DVD/Hulu

So last year the Child's Play remake came out. I heard it was decent but hadn't seen it. Then earlier this year I saw the DVD was fairly cheap so grabbed a copy. And like happens often with me happened. I will buy a film and then it just sits on the shelf for months/years. This time it was a little different. The day I got the dvd I put it in and watched the first 30 minutes. Got a phone call and had to leave.Skip ahead and I see the film is now on Hulu. Realizing I didn't remember anything I saw the first time I started the film at the beginning.

Set in the modern day this remake takes the bare bones of the original film and updates it to modern times. This time Chucky is a Buddi doll. That interacts with all the electronics Kalson produces. I'm guessing Kalson is just a renamed Apple, mostly cause their products appear to be over priced junk.

Aubry Plaza plays the mother. She has just moved and is trying all she can to help her son,Andy has a hearing loss. Which really never plays much into the film oddly. One day at her job Aubry has a customer return a Buddi doll cause it has the wrong hair color. When she learns the doll will be shipped back to the warehouse and destroyed she blackmails her boss into letting her have it.

At first Andy isn't that into his new toy. But fairly quick Chucky becomes Andy's best friend. But what Andy and his mom don't know is that Chucky had all his safety protocals removed at the factory by a worker. So once Andy meets some new friends ,who show him Texas Chainsaw Massacre II,Chucky starts to recreate what he saw in TCM II.

Chucky kills the family cat, cause it has scratched Andy. Then once Chucky realizes that Aubry's boyfriend is a douchebag, well Chucky follows the boyfriend home and kills him. Then delivers the boyfriend's head to Andy. Andy and his new friends try to dispose of the head but through a bunch of odd twists the head ends up wrapped up like a birthday present. And ends up in the apartment of an elderly lady who's son is a police detective.

So as you can see this film isn't just a straight up copy of the original. Besides being updated to reflect modern tech,it also ups the gore levels. And really ups them. I don't remember any of the Child's Play films having as much gore as this film.

Plaza is really good as the mom. The kid playing Andy isn't bad at all. But the star of the film is Mark Hamil as Chucky's voice.

What sucks is the ending of the film sets up a sequel. But this film didn't do that great at the box office. So I doubt we get a sequel.

31 Days of Horror Day 29 Knock Knock

TITLE-Knock Knock
SOURCE-Lionsgate Blu Ray

Yea I know this is a remake of of the mid 70s film Death Game AKA The Seducers. And Colleen Camp comes back for this remake. ANd yea I have seen piles of reviews of this film online. Calling it a piece of shit.

Back in late Oct 2015 I was sent a DVD rip of this film. Tossed it in planning on doing some editing while watching it. And it caught my attention enough I didn't anything edited.

Keanu Reeves is married with 2 young kids. His wife and kids leave for the weekend. And he settles in to do some work. While listening to some records Keanu fires up a bowl and hears a knock at the front door.
That's Ana De Armas on the left and Lorenza Izzo on the right
At the door is two wet and cold young women. Played by Ana De Armas, best known for her role in Blade Runner 2040,and Lorenza Izzo, the ex MS Eli Roth  and best known for her lead part in The Green Inferno. They are lost and need to borrow a phone to call someone. Reeves lets them in and well shit goes downhill from there.

Reeves tries to be nice and helpful. Calls them a Uber, which will be there in 45 minutes. Throws their wet clothes into the dryer. And even shows off his DJ skills.

Knock Knock then morphs into a 90s era ERotic Thriller,I kept waiting on Shannon Tweed to show up. The ladies are in the bathroom,Reeves comes in to bring them their clothes and let them know the Uber is there. They seduce him. And after a long night of sex Reeves passes out.

The next morning Keanu wakes up to discover the two women are still there and made a mess of his kitchen. He is gonna call the cops to get them to leave when the women reveal that they are underage.

Basically Knock Knock is a home invasion movie mixed with a 90s SKINAMAX erotic thriller.

Sure you can figure out the ending. And the womens' reasoning for doing what they are doing is kinda bunk. But there is so much right with the film. The soundtrack and score are good. Love him or hate him Eli Roth knows how to frame a shot. And does some neat things with light in Knock Knock. And yea it helps that Ana and Lorenza as stunning beauties.

This is pretty much a 3 person film. Would be neat to see it adapted to a stage play.

Ana De Armas is pretty good in her role. I had never seen her before this film. She has the right look for the part she is playing. In that looking at her you can't tell how old she is. She could be mid 20s but then she could be 15. The only real flaw in Ana in this film is sometimes cause of her accent I had trouble understanding what she was saying. IIRC Ms Armas is from Cuba. So when speaking English she does have a bit of an accent. But it isn't a big flaw. And the film has well done subtitles.

Lorenza Izzo is gonna be a big star. After seeing her in this and Green Inferno I saw proof that she is a really talented actress. Able to do comedy, drama and horror. Plus she has this great sense of timing. I hope her divorce from Eli Roth doesn't cause her to not get as many roles in English movies.

Keanu Reeves is an actor that has a very limited role he can play. In that role he is damn good. But try to put him into a role that isn'tin that limited range and you get shit like Bram Stroker's Dracula. Thankfully Reeves is great in this. But then he is just playing a older stoner music buff. Which from what I have read is really who Reeves is.

The Blu ray of course has a audio commentary. Which is fairly entertaining. You get Roth, his then wife and Colleen Camp on it. There is a handful of deleted scenes, and you can see why they weren't included in the film cause they aren't good.Plus a halfway decent making of the film.

Knock Knock gets a B.

31 Days of Horror Day 06 Come out and Play

Title-Come Out and Play
Source-Flatiron Film Company Blu Ray

I am always surprised at the indie films I find at my local Dollar General. The above pictured Blu Ray I found for $3 at Dollar General months ago. Read the back and thought "Hey this sounds like Who Can Kill a Child"

And yep it is a remake/ripoff of Who Can Kill a Child? They just change the setting to Mexico. And thankfully made the movie a lot shorter. The original was 2+ hours IIRC and dragged. This is 86 minutes and flies by.

Simple plot. A couple go on vacation to Mexico. And the husband wants to goto a tiny island off the coast since it will be less crowded. They arrive and see no one. Finally finding out that the kids of the island have killed off all the adults.

It is a good idea for a horror movie. And even though I seem to be one of the few that has seen and hated Who can Kill a child,I love this ripoff/remake.

31 Days of Horror 2016 Day 15 Thir13en Ghosts

Title-Thir13en Ghosts
Source-Warner Brothers DVD

While the original William Castle 13 Ghosts isn't a great film,it is one that is well remembered cause of it's interesting Ghost viewer gimmick. So when I heard it was being remade I got curious. Sadly there was no Ghost Viewers handed out when you saw this remake in a theater.

Tony Shalhoub is a widowed father. Who is having money troubles, but somehow is still able to afford a live in nanny. He is told his uncle has passed and left him a house. So Tony and his family head to this house.

When they get there they find out the house was made to house 13 ghosts. There is 12 in there already. And by the end of the night one more will be added.

This film looks great. The FX work by the KNB studios is well done. The acting is hit or miss. Shaloub does a decent job with what appears to be a kind of crappy script. But Shannon Elizabeth as his daughter is horrible.

Another thing is I wish they had given us more details about the 12 ghosts. Sadly this isn't in the film. But there is an extra feature on the DVD that gives you plenty of history on each ghost.

31 Days of Horror 2016 Film 04 Cabin Fever Remake

Title-Cabin Fever
Source-VOD rip

Yep I have now watched this shitstain of a film 2 times.Still wondering why the fuck anyone thought we needed a fairly close shot for shot, word for word remake of a film that came out right at 14 years ago.

I figure if you are reading this you know the plot of the original Cabin Fever. All I noticed that was changed was a few scenes happened in different places. And small things like the pancakes kid is wearing a mask in this version. Or Paul has sex with what was Cerina Vincent in the original, this time in the kitchen instead of one of the bedrooms. Also Deputy Winston is now a woman. Yeah that is pretty much the only differences I noticed.

The gore is halfway well done. The acting is not good. And the film is just un-needed.

31 Days of Horror 2015 Franchise review Piranha

A few years ago I did short reviews of every film in various horror franchises. And to me a film has to have at least 4 films to be a franchise. So I was thinking "What is a franchise I don't hear lots of talk about?" And after realizing not only I don't want to re-watch all 13 entries in the Witchcraft franchise,I also only own about half of them. Then a few days ago I got ahold of a film that I had forgotten about. Yep got the mid 90s remake of Piranha.

Starting in 1978 with the Roger Corman produced Jaws rip off. Piranha now has a total of 5 films in the series.

The first one I saw years ago late at night on one of the local UHF channels. Where genetically engineered WAR piranhas get released. And they end up in a water resort where carnage happens.

Going back a few years ago when Shout Factory released a great DVD of this film I found it really fun and entertaining. It is very much a 70s low budget horror. But I love that type of film.

3 years later in 81 a sequel hit the silver screen. Directed by James Cameron,in what was his first theatrically released film.Besides some flying piranhas, yeah they can fly in this one. The FX work is decent. But truthfully this is the worst film in the franchise. Just proving to me once again unless he is ripping off old episodes of Outer Limits, that Cameron is a hack and one of the most over rated directors of the past 100 years.

And now we are up to the film I just finally got a copy of. Back in the mid to late 90s Showtime had a weekly Roger Corman Presents show. Where each Saturday you got a new Corman produced film. Really this is pretty much a straight remake of the late 70s original. But it has a neat cast. You got William "Greatest American Hero" Katt,Alexandra"Christine" Paul,Soleil Moon Frye AKA Punky Brewster and in her debut role Mila Kunis. Yeah I was surprised when I saw her. Doing some research it seems this did get a DVD release that is out of print.
In 2010 Piranha was remade for a second time. This time in 3D. And what a fun film this is. You get right at 1 1/2 hours of hot women, gore and a dash of comedy. This time it is set during Spring break in a town on the edge of a huge lake. The cast is pretty fun. You got the almost always good Elizabeth Shue. Christopher Lloyd pretty much playing his Doc Brown role from Back to the Future. And Jerry O'Connell as a sleazy as fuck Girls Gone Wild director.
Then in 2012 we got what as of this post the last film in the franchise. Piranha 3dd,which from what I can find got a very limited theatrical release. And I can see why. This movie is kind of a mess. It uses any excuse to show boobs or blood. And besides David Hasselhoff playing himself the rest of the cast is crap. This and the Flash TV show are what proved to me that Danielle Panabaker lost all her acting talent once she grew up.

31 Days of Horror Movie 22

A Nightmare on Elm Street remake
2010
Starz airing

I am not one of those horror fans that automatically hates every remake. I have actually enjoyed most of the modern remakes. This film broke that streak.

I had made the 3 hour drive to the coast. To visit family and friends. Plus I wanted to see this movie in a good theater. After leaving the theater I was pissed. The film was horrible. The only good thing was Jackie Earle Haley. And even then he wasn't that good. The acting was wooden. The FX work was mostly CGI and looked horrible. And the plot was very boring.

This is basically the same film as the original. But with a few small changes. In this one Freddy worked at some school. And you find out he sexually molested some kids. That is why the parents burned him alive. the only other change is for about half of the film you are lead to believe maybe he didn't do it. But it turns out he did.

Now I own every other Nightmare on Elm Street film. This one I have never bought. Maybe if I found the DVD for $5 I might pick it up. But $5 is still too much for this piece of shit.

Toolbox Murders
2004
Lionsgate DVD

This is Tobe Hooper's remake of the 70's film. Now since Lifeforce I have not cared for most of Tobe's films. But this one is a return to form for him. It has that same creepy vibe that all good Hooper films have. I had been wanting to see it and had added it to my Netflix queue. But I ended up finding it in the Walmart $5 dump bin. So I took a chance on it. Figuring that for $5 bucks if I didn't like it ,I could give it away to someone.

The film starts off with Sheri Moon Zombie heading back to her apartment. And once she gets in it she is attacked by someone wearing a full face ski mask. The killer brutally kills her. We jump ahead a few weeks and a new couple is moving into the apartment complex. The wife is played by Angela Bettis. Who is a great actress but she is way too thin. She is so thin she looks like she is suffering from anorexia. Quickly she meets her next door neighbor. Who is a musician and has a abusive boyfriend. She hears the woman screaming. It seems the killer is attacking the musician lady with a nail gun. But once the cops arrive the musician lady isn't in her apartment. Well this happens a few more times with Angela hearing stuff and calling the cops. But by the time they arrive nothing is there.

One day while doing laundry Angela meets up with this older man that has lived in the complex since it was first opened 70+ years ago. He starts telling her some of the history of it. And she goes down to the courthouse to do some further investigation. She finds out that the man that designed the complex had ties to various occult stuff . And the strange symbols she keeps seeing all over the complex are mystic runes. Well after some more adventures she finds the killer's hiding space and he starts chasing her all over the complex.

I really enjoyed this film. When I first saw it I had never seen the original The Toolbox Murders. Now I have and really the films don't have much in common. Most of the kills are impressive. The nail gun kill is very well done. The acting is over all pretty good. The DVD has some deleted scenes,a trailer and 2 commentaries. The first commentary has Tobe Hooper and the two writers. The second one has the producers. So for the $5 I paid I got a great deal. Toolbox Murders gets a B+.

31 days of horror Year 2 day 9

Wizard of Gore 2008 Remake-Dimension Extreme DVD

Back when I was working my last job. I had plenty of downtime so I would watch dvds to help pass the time. So I got were I would buy almost any horror film on dvd. This was one of them. Kip Pardue is a writer/publisher for a tiny underground newspaper, and one night he goes to see a magic preformane for Montag the Magnificent, who is played by Crispen Glover. It seems Montag does amazing very gory magic tricks in which it seems he kills random audience members. This fascinates Kip so much he keeps coming back to every performance and tries to figure out how Montag is doing all the tricks. But there is one small catch every person that Montag kills on stage ends up dying in a grisly death a few days later. So Kip starts trying to figure out who is being all the murders. The film has some decetn CGI effects and a nice small role by Geoffry combs. But he is so hidden under makeup that I didn't realize it was him till my second time watching it. The film is also loaded with lots of very trippy scenes that help make you feel very uneasy. All of the murder victums are played by various members of the Suicide Girls website. And while their acting abilities are kinda bad, they make up for it in how their less than normal good looks add to the strangeness of this film. Wizard of gore 2008 remake gets a B+.

April Fools Day 2008 remake-Sony dvd
Found this one at Big Lots a few months back for $3. I enjoyed the original so picked this up hoping it would almost as good. It comes kinda close. Movie starts off with a prank gone wrong, and someone dies. Fast forward a year, and one by one the main group of friends end up dying. Until only Desiree Cartier is left. But just like in the original there is a twist at the end. Sadly I called the twist about 10 minutes into the film. The acting was decent ,and it helps that the lady playing Desiree is smoking hot. Plus you have Scout taylor compton, who is also mega-cute. The various deaths are well staged. The dvd is barebones,no commentary,no trailer, nothing but the film. But at the cheap price I wasn't expecting much more than the film. April Fools Day 2008 gets a C+.

I love cheap DVDs part 1

The last 6 weeks I have managed to acquire a nice stack of cheap ,$5 and under, dvds. First off I found at a local Movie Gallerys closing sale.

Cemetery Man-Anchor Bay-OOP and one that I missed. Had the cashier check and this had been rented only 7 times since they got it. Cost $5

Let the right one in-Magnet-Been wanting to see this. And had many many people recommend it to me. Cost $5

The King of Kong:A fistful of quarters-New Line-Been wanting to get this one. And it has 2 commentaries and a reversible cover. Cost $5

4-film pack featuring,My best friend is a vampire,Repossessed,Slaughter High Uncut edition,Silent Night Deadly Night 3.Already own SNDN 3 on the recently released 3 pack of the final 3 SNDN sequels. But I figured at 1.25 a movie it was worth getting again. Mainly bought this to replace my "Slaughter High" and "Repossessed" pre-records. Cost $5

Then on a trip to Biloxi,I went to the local Big Lots. Got the following for $3 each.

976-evil-Columbia Tristar-I remembering watching this on Showtime years ago. And for 3 bucks, thought it was worth picking up.

Innocent Blood-Warner brothers-Another I remember seeing on Showtime. Haven't seen it in about 15 years, but do remember liking it last time I saw it.

Career Opportunities-Universal-One of the more under-rated John Hughs movies. It seems like back in the mid 90's this was on cable every other day.

Bloody Murder-Artisan-Never saw this ,but saw Bloody Murder 2. Always here about how bad this is,and seems to be OOP.

April Fools Day 2008-Sony-I enjoyed the original. Haven't seen this one either, but it cost me the price of a rental to buy it.

Then finally, ran by a Movie Gallery in Biloxi. Only got one thing and it was still sealed.

Ghost House Underground Double Feature,Jack Ketchum's Offspring and Seventh Moon-Lionsgate-Been wanting to get Offspring for over a year. And the cheapest I have found it was around 14 bucks. But Movie Gallery had this brand new for $9.50. Haven't seen Seventh Moon, but was more than happy to pay 9 and change for Offspring.

The Hills have Eyes-Unrated Remake

Source- 20th century fox DVD

A family of 7 are traveling though Yuma Flats heading to California. They stop at a gas station for fuel, and the gas station attendant tells them about a short cut. Turns out this is a set up,on the shortcut they end up driving over something that pops their tires. They crash into a rock. The dad and the oldest sister's husband head out to look for help. And as night falls all hell breaks loose. 2 mutated men attack the camper, while another ties the father to a Joshua tree and sets it on fire. After a gruesome battle, the oldest sister, the mom,and the father are all dead. And the oldest sister's baby has been kidnapped. The husband heads out to get his baby back, while the brother and younger sister stay behind. The two siblings booby trap the area around the trunk and camp and wait. The husband comes upon a town that was built when the government was testing nuclear bombs in this area. He sneaks into a house a finds his child there, but on his way out he is attacked by one of the mutants. He comes too and is inside a freezer that is full of various body parts. Turns out these mutants are the descendants of the miners that refused to leave the area when the nuclear testing was happening. The husband ends up killing most of the mutants and sees a younger female one running off into the hills with his child. He follows and has to fight off the leader of the mutants, the fight is long and bloody, but at the end he knocks him down and think he has killed the mutant. The young female mutant hands over the baby, and sees that the leader is about to attack the husband again, she ends up tackling the leader and they both fall over a cliff. Finally victorious the husband, with his baby in tow, head back to meet up with the other two. They hug and all that kind of happy shit. Then the camera pulls out and we realize someone in the hills is still watching them. The end. This wasn't a bad remake,it took parts of the Wes Craven original. But changed enough to not end up being a total rehash. The special effects were really good The makeup on the various mutants was a highlight for me. It is worth seeing, either by buying it for cheap or a rental. The Hills have eyes remake gets a C+ from me.

31 days of horror Day 10

Funny Games-2007 American Remake

Source-Warner Brothers DVD

I saw the original German version of Funny Games quite a few years ago. This shot for shot remake, which has the same director as the original, while exactly the same as the original doesn't have the emotional impact. A couple and their son,Naomi Watts and Tim Roth, are heading to their vacation home that is on a lake. They arrive and Tim and his son go out to get the sailboat prepared. While this is happening Naomi is getting dinner ready when a knock is at the door. She answers it and it is 2 teenage boys, who say that the neighbors sent them over to borrow some eggs. Both boys have an air of uneasiness surrounding them. Tim Roth and the son come back into the house around the time both boys are leaving, there is a confrontation and the two boys get the upper hand and take the couple and their son hostage. From here it becomes a series of sick and twisted games that the two boys play with the family. One thing that a lot of people don't notice on first viewing is 99% of the violence happens off screen and we only really see the aftermath. While this movie clearly draws on Last house on the left,Last house on the beach, and House on the edge of the park,it doesn't fall into the exploitation of the audience that the others do. One scene which I have to mention, but can't say much about without spoiling one of the best moments in movies in many years,It seems that Naomi Watts is getting the upper hand on the two boys. But quickly you find out that she only has a very "remote" chance. For some reason the original worked better on an emotional level, even though it was subtitled. This one is still good, but it didn't have as an intense effect on me. Still I would have to give it a solid A.
