OK the ring announcer is dressed up like a pirate I think.

Dasher Hatfield

 VS

 Frightmare

Seen Frightmare before and he is decent. No idea who Dasher is. But he has this weird baseball looking mask. For some reason there is a guy dressed up like a bottle of mustard out in the crowd.

Frightmare keeps scaring Dasher. So Dasher exits the ring and goes and gets a kid out of the audience wearing a Frightmare mask. And they hide in the elevator. Frightmare goes looking for Dasher and gets scared by the kid. OK that guy isn't a giant bottle of mustard,he is a giant banana.Dasher seems to be more of a 80s power style wrestler. Where as Frightmare is very lucha inspired.The crowd seems to be behind both guys. Dasher has Frightmare in a surfboard and the crowd starts clapping to help Frightmare break the hold. The commentators keep talking about how Dasher has only lost one match so far in Wrestling is Fun.Dasher hits a nice looking jackhammer off the second rope. But Frightmare manages to kick out at 2.Frightmare ends up winning with a crucifix bomb. What a fun match.

Stigma

 VS

 Jolly Roger

Maybe this is why the announcer is dressed up as a pirate. I wonder if he will wrestle with the eye patch on? Something about Stigma's mask reminds me of Shark Boy.Stigma does a neck breaker over the top rope and knocks Jolly's eye patch and bandana off. Both guys end up brawling outside the ring. With Stigma landing some stiff shots. Jolly Roger comes back with some quick kicks. But it isn't enough to get a three count. Roger hits a springboard elbow drop. But again it isn't enough to get the pin. Roger ends up getting the pin.


Kimber Lee

 VS

 Saturnye

Kimber is working some kind of princess gimmick. And Saturyne is doing a luchadore gimmick.Kimber demands Saturyne kisses her foot. And when she won't do it Kimber pitches a fit.Saturyne is amazingly fast in the ring.Kimber keeps cheating and doing all kinds of heelish stuff. Kimber keeps doing all kinds of power moves. And also keeps playing to the crowd. Saturyne uses that to her advantage and nails Kimber with a huge top rope drop kick. Holy Shit KImber nails Saturyne with a release German Suplex. But it isn't enough to get a 3 count. Finally Saturyne nails a springboard cross body and gets the pin. Damn that was one of the better women's matches I have seen in a long time. After the pin Kimber attacks and beats the hell out of Saturyne.

Batiri

 VS

 Latvian Proud Oak

Estonian Thunderfrog

Someone threw a roll of toilet paper into the ring when the Batiri entered. OH Crap Thunderfrog is doing the THOR AS A FROG gimmick from the old comic book!!!!!!! So we have ThorFrog and a tree vs 2 Misfit era Danzig ripoffs. Just noticed Proud Oak wrestles barefoot.Thunderfrog nails one of the Batiri with a huge kick to the face. Proud Oak goes into some kind of yoga pose,and the unmasked Batiri guy keeps on trying to pin him. But since Proad Oak is in  a ball shape he can't be pinned. Ok one of the commentators made a Herb from Burger King reference. Ok this match is just so wacky. The Batiri are great and keepign Proad Oak from tagging in Thunderfrog.Oak finally makes the tag and Thunderfrog hits the ring. He nails the unmasked Batiri guy with a Polish Hammer.OH SHIT THUNDERFROG DOES A DOUBLE BEARHUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It seems the masked Batiri is named Kobald. Batiri hits Thunderfrog with the Demon toilet. They go for the pin but Proad Oak breaks up the pin attempt.Kobald ends up slapping the camera man who is up on the apron.Kobald takes too long with his top rope move and Proad Oak gets out of the way. Then Thunderfrog and Proad Oak do a wacky double team move to get the pin.

Oleg the Usurper

 VS

 Lance Steel



Oleg looks like the Berserker and Conan the Barbarian had a special needs kid. ANd Lance Steel looks like a early 90s Image comics superhero. So far all the gimmick is in WIF remind of how GLOW was back in the 80s.Oleg being the bigger and most likely stronger of the two. Nice spot where Oleg keeps chopping Lance Steel in his obviously plastic chest piece armor.Oleg ends up throwing Lance off the top rope to the hard gym floor.Lance Steel gets a piggy back ride from the ref and nails Oleg with a fist to the face. Steel finally gets Oleg into a Boston Crab. But Oleg quickly gets out of it. Oleg wins after slapping Steel hard on the side of the head. As he is leaving Oleg goes over and beats up the Banana guy.


Juan Francisco De Coronado

 VS

Mike Quackenbush



Wow Juan must be tiny cause he makes Quack look tall. And I know Quack is under 6 foot. Juan drops Mike with a stiff ass punch. But Mike returns the favor.And then hits a nice monkey flip,followed by another.Both guys end up outside the ring.  And Quack does a running bodyslam to the floor to Juan.Lots of fast paced back and forth action.Juan does a impressive german suplex. But Mike kicks out at 2. Juan wins with a victory roll,but only cause his manager holds down Quackenbush's foot.

Devastation Corporation

 The Colony

This should be good. I have seen the Colony a few times and they are always entertaining. The commentators play up how Fire Ant and Green Ant are much smaller than their opponants.This is your classic tag match where one team is big power guys vs two smaller faster guys.Fire Ant takes a shitpile of punishment. Then he finally makes the hot tag to Green Ant. Who enters the ring with a missile dropkick.The Colony do some nice doubleteaming. And the Colony wins by countout.

Mr Touchdown Mark Angelosotti

 vs

 Hallowicked

Never seen Mr Touchdown before,but have seen Hallowicked and he is decent.Touchdown starts on about how since Hallowicked wears a mask,he will wear one. So Mr Touchdown goes and puts on a football helmet. Reminds me of the battle royal in mid south where Terry Gordy came out wearing a football helmet. Pretty fun match. With Touchdown doing lots of powermoves and Hallowicked doing his lucha based stuff.Really surprised how agile Mr Touchdown is. HHAHAH MR Touchdown does the Tebow pose! But Hallowicked makes a comeback. And the crowd is really behind Hallowicked.But that is stopped when Mr Touchdown nails a wicked Superplex.But it isn't enough to get the pin.Finally Touchdown cheats and keeps the Banana. Yes the big title in WIF is a Banana. A regular Banana.

Wow what a fun and wacky show. I will have to check out more Wrestling is Fun shows.

Not a big fan of either guy. But Hy-zaya isn't horrible. Both are spot machines. But Hy-Zaya at least tries to sell sometimes. OK match to open the show with but nothing special.

Match 2

Mean Mitch Page

vs

Paul E. Smooth

Mean Mitch is OK. And with the right opponent can be decent. Paul E. is pretty much crap. So this match was horrible. What is it with IWA MS wrestlers and ICP? I see lots of them coming out wearing ICP gear and lots of them use ICP songs for their entrance music.

Match 3

Adrian Serrano

vs

Corporal Robinson

Adrian is a pretty good worker. And when Corp isn't doing death matches he is fun. Really well done match. Lots of stiff shots and some nice pacing of moves.

Match 4

Paige is on the left and Holly Wood is on the right.

Holly Wood vs Paige

This is the reason IWA MS lost this building. This is a bubble bath match between two strippers. The show was suppose to be 18 and older. But Ian being a fucking idiot let some people come in with young kids. What I have heard is the building owner found out and kicked IWA out of the building. Not much to say about this "match". Neither lady is anything special. They look like the types of girls that work at a somewhat sleazy strip club. While they are not ugly,they aren't stripper hot either. I do love that after the match Ian is out there on the mic letting everyone know they can get their pictures taken with Holly and Paige for $10.


Match 5

Rollin Hard (RIP)

vs

Rugby Thug Trent Baker

Rollin was never a good wrestler. He was entertaining and would have made a good manager. But in the ring he was crap. Sadly he died a few years back from cancer I think. Rugby Thug isn't bad. You can tell he is a huge fan of the Japanese Strong Style wrestling. Basically the match is Rugby just hitting Rollin with stiff as fuck punches and some nice crisp moves.



Match 6

Chris Hero

 vs

Ian Rotten

 vs

Cash Flo

So far this is the best match on the show. Hero was young here but you can see all the potential he has. Ian isn't bad. People seem to forget that Ian,when not doing death matches,can be good. Cash Flo is the weak link in this match. It would have been much better if it was just a normal match without Cash.

Match 7

Too Tuff Tony

vs

Spyder Nate Webb

Been big fan of Webb for years now. And wish he was still wrestling. Last I heard he was traveling around with one of those hardcore midget wrestling groups. Too Tuff Tony is OK. Nothing special. Nate makes this match. Really fun match but kind of wondering why it is the main event. I would have had this after the bubble bath match and made the three way the main event.

Then after the main event we get a bonus. We get to see all the guys that paid 10 bucks to get their picture taken with Holly and Paige. And it is a long ass line. I wonder how much of that money Holly and Paige got and how much of it Ian kept. And then spent on Orioles gear and pot and pills.

Overall this isn't a good show. There is a couple of meh matches. 1 decent match and 2 good matches. Unless you can find this cheap,say $5 or less,skip it.

Powerslam Productions Slamfest May 4th 2013

After having my car act up,we switched vehicles and headed down to Liberty MS. Got there right at 2:30PM. Found a place to park and headed to the town hall. Saw all the wrestlers hanging around outside the library. Walked over and talked to Wes for a few minutes. Then saw Joe Kane. Talked to him for about 10 minutes then gave him a WCCW dvd. He kept trying to pay me for it. But I kept telling him it was free. Wes informs us the meet and greet is now moved till after the show. No biggie.

We are all hungry so we go scope out the food carts. Recently Collin became a vegetarian,so his options on what to eat were limited. He grabbed some nachos. I grabbed a chili cheese dog and a bottle of water. The prices were decent. $4 for my meal. We all sat down and ate,then walked around looking at the stuff for sale. Nothing caught my eye. So we go find a shady spot near the ring and sat there bullshitting for about 40 minutes. Then we see that the gimmick table is being set up. So we walked over to check out what they had for sale.

I talked to the guy at the table for a few minutes. He kept trying to get me to buy some old wrestling magazines. But instead I grabbed the 2 Powerslam dvds they had for sale. Tylertown Throwdown II and Wrestle Festivus. They were 10 each or both for 15 bucks.

Well we saw a crowd starting to form around the ring,so the three of us went over and got a place to sit. Should have brought chairs. But oh well. A little after 4pm the show starts. Brett hits the ring and gets the crowd hyped up. Then it was time for the first match.

Match 1 Outlaw Matt Lancie vs Stud Matthews

Outlaw came out first.

And the crowd didn't know how to react to him. So the three of us started booing him loudly. Which the crowd followed along with. Then we hear Eye of the Tiger hit the speakers. Hell Yeah Stud is on his way to the ring. He came through the crowd and stopped to thumb wrestle some of the kids.

The crowd was solidly behind Stud. He got into the ring and posed on the four corners. Once the match started it was a nice back and forth match. Then Matthews STUDS UP! The Outlaw tries everything he can. But it has no effect on Stud. Stud nails him with the big boot. Then the legdrop and gets the pin. It was a great match and the perfect way to get the crowd hyped up.I have said it a few times before,Stud is an amazing face and totally connects with the crowd.

Brett gets back in the ring and tells us that Hardbody Harper has something to say. Harper comes out and talks about how last year at the Liberty Heritage days he managed Wes Adams. 

And how Wes had to gall to wear pink tights. Thriller hits the speakers and Wes comes out. And Wes has on the pink tights.

Wes enters the ring and both guys take turns cutting each other down. Then Harpers stable,The House of Harper,come out and confront Wes. But Rumble O'Riley heads out to help out Wes. I love how The House of Harper,which is Calvin Rose,Lukas Frost and Kool Jay Steele interacted with the audience. Wes and Rumble challenge the House of Harper to a handicap 2 on 3 match  for the main event.Finally the ring clears and it is time for the second match.

Match 2 Purple Haze Davey Hendrix VS SGT Socorro

Purple Haze is managed by Big Ramp.

Now the last time I saw Davey he was a face. So we were cheering him. But Big Ramp quickly made it clear that him and Purple Haze are the heels. SGT head out to the ring and the crowd is solidly behind him. This turned out to be a super fun match. With Purple Haze doing all kinds of quick and high flying moves. Where SGT is more mat based. Finally Socorro grounds Davey and he heads to the top rope.

SGT hits a sweet 5 star frog splash and gets the pin.

Match 3 Hotshot Blake Wilder VS Ling Pham

Blake is out first and even though he has been a heel on every Powerslam show I have been too, the crowd cheers him.

Then Ling Pham comes out. Half the crowd is cheering him half is booing. We of course are cheering him. I love how Ling is doing a hit and run strategy. While Blake's ringwork reminds me a lot of Randy Orton. Wilder is so damn over with this crowd,there was a group of about 6 young kids that chanted HOTSHOT through out the entire match. Ling tries all he can to defeat Wilder,but Blake catches him and puts him in a wicked looking Liontamer.

Ling tries all he can,but he finally is taken out. And Blake gets the pin.

Match 4 Joe Kane the Prince of Pain vs Reggie Matthews

Joe is out first and the crowd hates him. I love how Joe can make the crowd boo him without saying a word.

Then Reggie comes out,and since he is from Liberty the crowd goes apeshit. He walks through the crowd and as he passes by us quickly thanks the three of us for driving down.

Reggie hits the ring and the crowd is explosively loud. Joe turns towards the crowd and gives them the quiet sign.

It is little things like this that stand out. We get a really fun match. Since I like both guys I ended up cheering for both of them. Reggie finally gets the pin and the crowd gets loud as fuck again. Joe is laying in the ring with his head under the ropes. Reggie is outside the ring talking to the kids. Then someone hands Reggie a funnel cake. Which Reggie takes and smashes it into Joe's face. The look on Joe's face when he got up and had powdered sugar all over it was priceless.

Match 5 Calvin Rose,Lukas Frost and Kool Jay Steele VS Wes Adams,Rumble O'Riley and Big Daddy V

The House of Harper hits the ring first. Then out comes Wes and Rumble. Wes asks for the mic. "We looked far and wide and we have a partner. He is 7 foot tall and one of the biggest wrestlers ever BIG DADDY V!" Every one goes nuts.

I notice that Big Daddy V has lost weight. The match starts and it is a super fun 6 man tag. Lasting over 20 minutes. So great spots. Like when Viscera is tagged in and Calvin Rose begs off.

After so nice action the good guys get the pin. Reggie comes out and grabs the mic. He thanks everyone for coming and lets everyone know that in 10 minutes they are having a meet and greet at the library.

We head over there and are the 4th or 5th people in the line. It's 10 bucks to get in. Which isn't a bad deal at all. Reggie is at the door collecting the money and again he thanks the three of us for coming down. We get inside and see that Viscera,Rumble O'Riley,Stud,Ling Pham,SGT Socorro and Wes are all sitting at tables. And they have moved the gimmick table inside.As soon as we enter I hear Sgt and Ling both holler NEWT! Blake walks up to Viscera and hands him his replica WWE Hardcore title. Vis talks about how he held that belt years ago. Then signs it. Then Collin and Blake get a picture with Big Vis.

Then I walk up and had Vis a older WWE trading card to get signed. And mention how I remember back when he started in Memphis."That was 20 years ago you are making me feel old." So I explain to him how I have been watching wrestling for over 30 years. He signs my card and I get a picture with him.

I thank Vis for the autograph and picture. We head over to the next table which has Rumble and Stud. Rumble ask Collin and I if we had gone to Free Comic Book Day before the show. I inform him I skipped FCBD this year to come to the show. Then we talk comics with Rumble for a few minutes. Blake gets both guys to sign his belt. And I talk to Stud about various stuff. Then I get Stud to autograph my two Powerslam dvds. We move onto the next table which has Ling AKA Bu Ku Dao and Sgt sitting there. As soon as we walk over both yell NEWT! again. I chuckle and talk to Bu Ku about his match against Chris Masters the weekend before at the Wildkat International Invasion show. He signs my dvd and then I walk over and talk to SGT for a few minutes he signs both dvds. Then Blake gets them to sign his belt. We head to the next table and talk to Wes for a few minutes. Blake gets him to sign his belt. Well the guy working the gimmick table keeps trying to get me to buy this book they have for sale. Even offering to do a layaway on it. I explain how I can't afford to do it,cause at the time I thought my car was broke. But I do buy a still sealed Ric Flair and the 4 Horseman dvd set for $10. By this time Reggie is at the table and he signs Blake's belt and then we talk to him and Wes for about ten minutes. We are getting hungry so we head out. On the way to the truck we run into Calvin Rose. I start talking to him and mention how I just rewatched the 4 episodes of the short lived MCW tv show. He tells us how after the first 2 live shows they were drawing maybe 10 people per show. "So they started just stealing footage off youtube to air on the show." He thanks me for the Mid South DVD I gave to him back in December. And then says "Wait till you see who I met at the Gulf Coast Wrestle Reunion." He hands me his phone and I freak out cause there is Calvin and Cowboy Bill Watts. I show it to Collin and Blake but they don't know who it is. So I explain to them that Watts ran Mid South and spent time booking WCW. We tell Calvin goodbye and head to the truck. Then we get on the road and head home. Over all it was a great show. It was fun as always to see all the Powerslam talent. And they are always super nice  and friendly. Big thank you to Powerslam Productions for another great show.
